Budgeting for Agile Projects

07:04
How do we budget for Agile Projects? This Auspicious Agile (www.auspiciousagile.com) video blog entry talks about some techniques that can be used to plan and budget for Agile projects. Please note that in the first video example the "most likely case" is only for concept demonstration purposes. If we used the average velocity of the team (as 50 points per sprint) to calculate the most likely case it would actually take 5 sprints (for a backlog of 250 points) to complete.

Feature Based Project Management for Agile and Non Agile Projects

01:05:07
Feature-Based Project Management for Agile and Non-Agile Projects The success of any project depends on how requirements are being managed, and how changes are being controlled through out the project. When things get hectic and the schedule slips, it becomes crucial to get back to the customer as soon as possible with some adjustments to functionality being delivered. In fact, it is even more crucial to avoid that schedule slippage in the first place. Most importantly, it is critical to any project manager or QA manager to provide accurate estimates for each feature to be delivered, with accurate time frame when it will be delivered. Agile projects also must have better control over increments to make sure specific functionality is delivered at the right time. In this presentation, Dr. Magdy Hanna will show how Feature-Based Project Management™ adopted by Rommana ALM sets a new standard for managing software projects. Some of the features that will be discussed in this presentation are: Allocating and managing project resources, roles, responsibilities and access rights. Creating and managing project tasks for both development and testing on the project level, as well as on the requirement level. Creating and maintaining action item lists for both development and testing effort. Managing risks throughout the project for both development and testing on the project level, as well as on the requirement level. Creating and maintaining project timeline for all project tasks for both development and testing. Creating and maintaining cost and time estimates for both development and testing tasks, either on the projects level or the requirement level. Managing product release and features included in each release.

Managing Change with Agile

12:44
http://www.iil.com/agile/ Agile is the word of the moment in software development, and it is moving rapidly into all phases of IT and business life. Once the sole province of developers striving to replace the linear development life cycles, agile is now a valid adjective in front of a whole host of activities: agile project management, agile enterprise, agile sales, agile marketing, agile management and so forth. Agile connotes a process that is low-ceremony, flexible, responsive and fast. It is also one that is driven more by the process workers than by a set of documented standards. Watch the video below to learn how to manage change with Agile.

Lean & Agile Portfolio Management

45:25
Traditional portfolio management does not work. Or - let’s say - at least „any more“. I believe the traditional approach, i.e. * to plan a multiyear roadmap of projects, initiatives or actions * then apply for budget, get the approval and then to commit to the roadmap * then to implement the portfolio has serious issues in today’s fast paced environment. In this presentation I will explain my problems with the traditional approach and offer an alternative: Lean and agile portfolio management. For that we taken proven concept from agile software development and apply them to IT program and portfolio management. I have successfully implemented this approach which allows a portfolio manager to more agile his/her portfolio of IT projects. Moreover, effort for overhead activities is reduced and the process to select potential project ideas becomes leaner. At the end of the presentation I will also discuss challenges to implement this approach and ideas on how to move ahead.

The right Project Management Tool and Method | Work Tools #20

05:44
No Excel is not a good project management tool. Even Microsoft uses something better. I got some questions about what is a good project management tool: JIRA, Trello, Planner, Visual Studio, Smartsheet... uff there are so many. So I thought I discuss during my visit at Microsoft (see WorkDay Ep. 12) and asked Christian Binder who is an expert for agile project management. I was blown away when he told me that they scale Kanban (a very lean, actually very very lean agile pm method) for 30.000 people. That's a lot more than most of the startups have that usually work with these methods. I would be interested in your best practice and best experience for project management tools and methods. Let me know.
