Sister Carrie audiobook by Theodore Dreiser (1871-1945) http://free-audio-books.info/novel/sister-carrie-audiobook/ Theodore Dreiser was an American author of the naturalist school, known for dealing with the gritty reality of life. Sister Carrie (1900) is his first novel and tells the story of a young country girl who moves to the big city (Chicago) where she starts realizing her own American Dream by first becoming a mistress to powerful men and later as a famous actress. Dreiser and his wife significantly altered the original manuscript to make it more palatable to the prevailing sensibilities of the day, but even this toned down version caused a minor scandal, and Dreiser had difficulty finding a publisher for it. This was due to the blurred division line between good and bad in the plot. Although Dreiser's moralizing narrator does assert that, despite the fame and the money she has amassed, Carrie will not be able to achieve peace of mind in her life, the apparent lack of poetic justice — the notion that immorality should pay in the end, even if only up to a point — was a concept the reading public were altogether unused to at the time. To be a strong woman = to be a feminist? | Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser

01:40
A typical happily-ever-after story, ending in marriage for the main character — this is what we are NOT going to talk about today. We have something different for you. This story is set in nineteenth-century America, and it's a story about a strong person dealing with everything on her own. This book is probably not considered extremely feminist, but would it be unfair not to mention it? What do you think? Sister Carrie (FULL Audiobook) by Theodore Dreiser - part 9

Sister Carrie audiobook by Theodore Dreiser (1871-1945) Theodore Dreiser was an American author of the naturalist school, known for dealing with the gritty reality of life. Biggest Unanswered Questions In John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

06:17
There's an old expression: curiosity killed the cat. It's a quick way of saying that if you ask too many questions, you may not like the answers — or troubles — you get as a result. This particular adage would certainly serve viewers of the John Wick series well: ask too many questions, and your head might start to hurt. Here are some (but not all) of the biggest unanswered questions that we came up with by the end of John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum. And if you haven't seen the movie yet, plug some bullets into your ears — major spoilers ahead. Each installment of the John Wick saga seems to introduce more important characters from John's past, featuring some pretty big time Hollywood actors playing the parts. While these new faces fill in some blanks, they certainly raise plenty of questions of their own. Sofia, played by Halle Berry, probably has some of the most memorable and exciting scenes with Wick. The two team up (along with her very good dogs) to get John on the road to meeting the Elder of the High Table, and kill a bunch of jerks together in the process. When all is said and done, Sofia's debt to John is paid — and she seems to think that he actually owes her another favor now. But while just about everyone else who comes into contact with Wick throughout his period of being excommunicado gets punished by the Adjudicator or Zero and his ninja goons, we never see the consequences of Sofia's decision to help John. Will the High Table exact vengeance on Sofia in the next film? Will she be forced out of her own hotel management position as well? Will her mysterious hidden daughter come into play as a result? The biggest source of conflict within John Wick: Chapter 3 was the friction between the characters and the rules dictating their secret society. It all starts in John Wick: Chapter 2, when John breaks the rules inside the Continental by killing Santino D'Antonio, the crime lord who'd tricked John into killing his sister Gianna D'Antonio — all so Santino could ascend to her seat on the High Table. Everyone who helps John afterward is likewise punished for breaking yet more rules. Meanwhile, John travels across the world to meet with the Elder, who apparently runs the High Table, and who tasks him with killing Winston, the Continental Manager, to make things right. Keep watching the video to see the biggest unanswered questions in John WIck Chapter 3 - Parabellum! #JohnWick #JohnWick3 What happened to Sofia? | 0:29 What's up with this High Table anyway? | 1:26 Just how many assassins are there? | 2:38 How does this tie in to the Starz show? | 3:45 Did Winston expect John to live? | 4:44

Language, Voice, and Holden Caulfield: The Catcher in the Rye Part 1

10:52
In which John Green examines JD Salinger's novel The Catcher in the Rye. John pulls out the old school literary criticism by examining the text itself rather than paying attention to the biographical or historical context of the novel (that's for next week). Listen, words matter. The Catcher in the Rye has managed to endure without a movie adaptation because a lot of its quality arises from the book's language. Find out how Holden's voice, his language, and his narrative technique combine to make the novel work. Also, Thought Bubble gives us a quick rundown of the plot, in which Ikea Monkey may or may not appear. Support CrashCourse on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/crashcourse

Women in the 19th Century: Crash Course US History #16

13:11
In which John Green finally gets around to talking about some women's history. In the 19th Century, the United States was changing rapidly, as we noted in the recent Market Revolution and Reform Movements episodes. Things were also in a state of flux for women. The reform movements, which were in large part driven by women, gave these self-same women the idea that they could work on their own behalf, and radically improve the state of their own lives. So, while these women were working on prison reform, education reform, and abolition, they also started talking about equal rights, universal suffrage, temperance, and fair pay. Women like Susan B. Anthony, Carry Nation, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the Grimkés, and Lucretia Mott strove tirelessly to improve the lot of American women, and it worked, eventually. John will teach you about the Christian Temperance Union, the Seneca Falls Convention, the Declaration of Sentiments, and a whole bunch of other stuff that made life better for women. Hey teachers and students - Check out CommonLit's free collection of reading passages and curriculum resources to learn more about the events of this episode. Few women were as vocal for women's rights during the 19th century than Susan B. Anthony: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/the-life-s-work-of-susan-b-anthony Anthony worked for women's right to vote alongside great women like Sojourner Truth, who stressed the importance of intersectional feminism in her influential “Ain't I a Woman?” Speech: https://www.commonlit.org/texts/ain-t-i-a-woman Follow us! @thecrashcourse @realjohngreen @crashcoursestan @raoulmeyer @saysdanica Support CrashCourse on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/crashcourse

Chapter Thirty One: "A Night To Remember" Riverdale 2x18 "A Night To Remember" Riverdale Season 2 Episode 18 _ About ℝiverdale: As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music and not follow in his dad’s footsteps despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Now Archie has no one to mentor him, certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves, which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother Alice (Mädchen Amick), aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between Veronica and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)... Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows. _ Join The ℝiverdale Family and Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCttRug-iudQuDgdFRLfm4Qw _ Watch ℝiverdale: ➤On Netflix https://www.netflix.com/vn/title/80133311 ➤Every Week On The CW (9/8c Wednesdays) http://www.cwtv.com/shows/riverdale/view-in-app/ _ Connect with ℝiverdale Online: Learn more about RIVERDALE : http://cwtv.com/shows/riverdale Like RIVERDALE on FACEBOOK:https://www.facebook.com/CWRiverdale Follow RIVERDALE on TWITTER: https://twitter.com/CW_Riverdale Follow RIVERDALE on INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/thecwriverd... _ [TAGS] Riverdale Archie Comics Riverdale Chapter Riverdale Season 1 Riverdale Season 2 Main Characters: Archie Andrews Veronica lodge Betty Cooper Jughead Jones Cheryl Blossom Kevin Keller Josie McCoy Ships: Varchie Archieronnie Bughead Beronica Barchie Jeronica The Cast: Kj Apa Camila Mendes Lili reinhart Cole Sprouse Madelaine Petsch Casey Cott Ashleigh Murray

Pride & Prejudice movie clips: http://j.mp/15vV8Kr BUY THE MOVIE: http://amzn.to/thLCMc Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) lovingly watches her sisters become giddy over the idea of Mr. Bingley – a potential new suitor – as they learn he will be attending the ball. FILM DESCRIPTION: Jane Austen's perennially popular story of the game of love among the British upper classes returns to the screen in this polished film adaptation. The Bennets (Brenda Blethyn and Donald Sutherland) are the parents of five daughters near the close of the 18th century. Comfortable within their means but well short of rich, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are looking for suitable husbands for their girls, and they are encouraged to learn that an eligible young bachelor from a wealthy family, Charles Bingley (Simon Woods), has moved into a nearby estate. Eager to see if a match can be made, the Bennets bring their daughters Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Jane (Rosamund Pike) to a ball thrown by their new neighbor to see if sparks will fly. Jane seems to like Charles, and he appears to feel the same, but Elizabeth takes an immediate dislike to Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), Charles' egocentric best friend. While Elizabeth is infatuated with military man Lt. Wickham (Rupert Friend) and finds herself courted by William Collins (Tom Hollander), a well-meaning but drab man of the cloth, fate causes Elizabeth and Darcy to frequently cross paths, and while they don't care for one another, they can't stop thinking about each other, either. Pride & Prejudice also stars Jena Malone, Judi Dench, and Penelope Wilton. Ever After High Character Theme Songs (REUPLOAD)

13:54
Alistair Wonderland- He loves Bunny and if he says what his insecurities are will Bunny still love him exactly the same or will she have different feelings for him. Apple White-She understands what popularity is and she loves being the popular one because her story basically revolves around her. Ashlynn Ella- I chose this song because Ashlynn is a royal and Hunter is a rebel and Headmaster Grimm disapproves just like Juliet’s father in the song. Blondie Lockes- She’s a blonde, not really any other reason. Briar Beauty- She wants to live her life to the fullest before she sleeps for 100 years which will feel like she’s dying young. Bunny Blanc- Her destiny is to be the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland and the White Rabbit is always stressed about time and this song IS called Tik Tok, for you know, clocks. C. A. Cupid- She is always telling people to be true to their hearts and this song tells people to follow their hearts and what they are telling you and that’s basically what Cupid tells people. Cedar Wood- She likes who she is and she expresses it through her art and just being herself. Cerise Hood- In thronecoming Cerise is going try out for the bookball team and when the boys tell Cerise that she can’t because she’s a girl she seems very offended and this song basically says that girls can do whatever boys can. Courtly Jester- She has her evil ways. Crystal Winter- Crystal’s parents are saying promises and then they are saying no to what they just said and they are just changing their minds constantly and this song states that this person is constantly changing their minds. Daring Charming- Daring is obsessed with mirrors and this song is called Mirrors. Darling Charming- She is the only girl child in the Charming family. Dexter Charming- He wants to be cool like his brother, Daring. Duchess Swan- She loves applause and this song is all about fame, applause, and fans. Farrah Goodfairy- She grants wishes and the song is about wishing. Faybelle Thorn- She has a dark side and she’s proud of it and the song is about dark sides. Ginger Breadhouse- She wants to bake for everyone’s enjoyment and this song is about making and enjoying lemonade, also I didn’t really want to buy Birthday by Katy Perry because I don’t enjoy it but I don’t hate it. Gus Crumb- I feel like Gus is more crazy about candy. Helga Crumb- I did change this song but only because i thought that every character should have a different song and her destiny is to be trapped in the woods basically. Holly O’Hair- The song is all about hair and her whole future is about hair. Hopper Croakington ll- He likes Briar and she is basically an uptown girl and Hopper isn’t Humphrey Dumpty- His destiny is to be shattered into a million pieces and this song is all about shattering someone. Hunter Huntsman- He gave his secret about dating Ashlynn away and the song is about giving secrets away. Jillian Beanstalk- She has to climb a very high beanstalk and so she probably wants to go higher and higher. Justine Dancer- She is the daughter of the 12th Dancing Princess and I thought that since she loves to dance the perfect song for her would be Just Dance by Lady Gaga. Kitty Cheshire- She smiles all the time so I thought that this song would be perfect for her. Lizzie Hearts- Her destiny is to be the next queen of hearts and that famous line “Off with her head!” Madeline Hatter- I feel like Tea Party is way overused so I found another song that fits just as well because Riddlish is a very twisted language. Meeshell Mermaid- She is the daughter of the Little Mermaid and so I feel like this song would fit her very well because it’s all about water. Melody Piper- She is a famous DJ and so I felt like this song would be perfect for her because it ‘s called Please don’t stop the music. Mira Shards-I know she’s not technically a student but I just had to put her in. i chose this song because she is the evil queen and so there is something bad about to happen. Nina Thumbell- She can be small and I thought that that song would be perfect for her. Poppy O’Hair- Poppy has a twin sister so she basically has a soul sister. Ramona Badwolf- She is the daughter of the Big Bad Wolf and the song is about a She Wolf. Raven Queen- She didn’t sign the storybook of legends so that is basically saying “Hey, I don’t want this destiny and there’s nothing you can do to make me sign this stupid book.” Rosabella Beauty- She believes that everyone is worth something and she just tells them that “Hey, no matter what people tell you, you are gold, inside and out.” Sparrow Hood- He likes rock and roll. Tiny- The reason I chose this song is because he is a giant and the title is called We Are Giants. Bunny- Tik Tok- Ke$ha Darling- Only Girl (in the world)- Rihanna Dexter- Cool Kids- Echosmith Gus- I want candy- Bow wow wow Hunter- Secrets- Onerepublic Nina- So small- Carrie Underwood Poppy- Hey Soul Sister- Train Sparrow- I love rock and roll- Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
