Power BI Tutorial - Grow up Power BI Desktop to Analysis Services (Learning the clicks)

08:26
In this Power BI Tutorial, Patrick will show you how you can grow up a Power BI Desktop file (PBIX) to Analysis Services. He's all about learning the clicks! This is a Power BI tutorial worth watching! You can build your model within Power BI Desktop and then use Azure Analysis Services to migrate to a full tabular model. At that point, you could take the model within Visual Studio and then deploy it to on-premises Analysis Services Tabular or leave it in Azure Analysis Services. LET'S CONNECT! Incremental Load with Tableau

36:56
Many of our customers and prospects experience long (too long!) data refresh times when it comes to loading/refreshing data in Tableau Extracts. This episode covers one of the possibilities how to reduce data refresh times of Tableau Extracts: Incremental Data Load. The architecture and the step-by-step „how-to“ process are covered for two scenarios: Incremental Data Load with new records coming from source. Incremental Data Load with new and deleted records coming from source. For the third scenario (updated records) it is explained it in this episode why with the current version of Tableau we don’t really recommend it. (But there is good news for the third scenario as well: The new version of Tableau will - or at least so we hope - take care of it!) If you experience data refresh times of two or more hours then you really must watch this episode! SSIS Tutorial Scenario: Let's say we have to load a dimension table from text file. Our business Key is SSN. We need to insert new records depending upon values of SSN column, If any new then we need to insert this records. If SSN already existing in Table then we need to find out if any other column is changed from Source columns values. If that is true then we have to update those values. What we will learn in this video How to Read the data from Flat file in SSIS Package How to perform Lookup to Find out Existing or Non Existing Records in Destination Table From Source How to Insert new Records by using OLE DB Destination How to update existing Records by using OLE DB Command Transformation in SSIS Package Link to the blog post for this video with script if used http://sqlage.blogspot.com/2015/05/perform-upsert-updateinsert-scd1-by.html Check out our Full Step by Step SQL Server Integration Services(SSIS) Tutorial http://www.techbrothersit.com/2014/12/ssis-videos.html

Dynamic Filtering with Power BI and Analysis Services

11:27
In this video, Patrick answers your question about how to do this in Analysis Services Tabular and Multidimensional. Also, he adds a little bit of SQL to the mix. Make sure to watch the previous dynamic filtering videos to understand the basics of how to do this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXObcA9G9Vw To begin, you need to make sure to get the URL for your published report. For Tabular, you will need to do the following: 1. Identify table and field you want to filter 2. Build the URL formula for custom column 3. Change data category to web url For Multidimensional, you will need to do the following: 1. Identify the dimension 2. Add named calculation in Data Source View 3. Set the URL formula for the calculation 4. Drag the named calc to your dimension as an attribute 5. Change Basic Type to General to WebURL LET'S CONNECT! Business intelligence is a growing area of business optimization focused on utilization of an organization's data. Business intelligence projects have consistently proved to increase profits and competitiveness of the organizations that implement it. The understanding, methodology and available technologies for developing business intelligence systems have reached a level of maturity where even smaller organizations can reap the benefits. In fact, with recent evolution in hardware and software, smaller organizations even have distinct advantages over larger organizations that allow them to develop BI systems faster, with less costs and with significant functional advantages. This is the right time to learn business intelligence and with this book the subject is as easily accessible as ever before.

Ok, time for another Power Bi video and this time we are going to talk about Power BI naming conventions and other power bi modelling tips. First we will talk about what to remove or hide from your model like: Do not expose in a view a column that is not necessary in the Power BI data model. TIP: use radacad power bi helper to find out which things are not being used in the model:radacad.com/power-bi-helper More info about naming conventions here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/analysis-services/tabular-models/translations-in-tabular-models-analysis-services And about vertipaq:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8oSgTOeYCE Now for the best practices here are some: Use names that are well-known for the business It is a best practice to rename all the columns in the views, using exactly the names you will expose in the user interface of Power BI. You should avoid renaming tables and columns in a Power BI data model. Try to use single word names on tables if possible. And when it comes to naming conventions, take these into account: Avoid all caps (SALESTERRITORY) Pascal casing (SalesTerritory) Camel casing (salesTerritory) Use words separated by space (Sales Territory) You should remove any prefix and any suffix you might use in table names. Avoid acronyms Avoid abbreviations, use complete name when possible. If acronyms/abbreviations are used, they are always used in the same way. What are your best Power BI modelling tips? 26:27
