$1 AUX Stereo Input Hack

Here's how to hack into your radio to add an aux input to connect your phone or mp3 player. This method applies to the Honda Accord, but may also be similar for the Civic, CRV and Element from the mid 2000's that did not originally come with an aux input. Forget expensive aux adapters that cost $30-$100! Add your own for the cost of the 3.5mm stereo cable - $1! This DIY video shows you how to open up the radio, examine the motherboard circuitry, solder and connect your own aux line. Also shown is a second method, that you don't even have to open up your radio - just add it to the CD changer lines going to the radio through the accessory port. Honda radio's internally use digital data transmission to select inputs. Traditionally, this hack would be easy with a tape player or analog CD player. However this radio uses a digital CD player. Therefore, the radio is the only analog signal that can be hacked into. Wires are soldered to the AF OUT port on the AM/FM modulator, and automatically override the FM signal when audio is played. The downside is that it's only a mono input. The second method to getting an aux input requires a Honda accessory plugged into the 14-pin M-bus connector. The accessory, be it an external CD changer, tape player or ipod connector, will use the internal I2C protocol to fool the radio into thinking there's an audio input from the accessory port. We then inject our own signal from our phone/mp3 player. This will give you clearer stereo sound, however at line level volume, so you'll have to crank it up a bit. Additionally you can add a bluetooth adapter to pair your phone with your car wirelessly. Now you can finally throw away that FM transmitter for some much improved quality sound! This hack was performed on a 2004 Honda Accord and will be the same for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 Accords. Do You Need EXPENSIVE Preamps? [Concrete Answers]

This tutorial will talk about expensive preamps and whether they enhance sound quality. The fact is you do need an audio preamp for most anything that you are doing in the home recording studio the question is can you get by with a budget preamp of is the expensive preamp a must? What about for bedroom recording, cheap mixing and can sound hardware take care of it? There are a lot of questions about preamps and the role they play in studio recording that we answer in this video. What is a Preamp? A preamp can mean a couple of things. It can be the preamplifier circuit in a device, or it can be an external device. The purpose of this tool is to amplify the low signals to give your recording a standard operational level. Microphone signals typically are below the operating level. Lots of gain must be added. Instruments like guitars and bass do not need as much gain. Even synths need some preamplification to meet the studio level but there are different standards. Home audio standards use to be -10dbv and professional studios operated at +4db. Today things are different even home studio devices are at a range of +4db. You do need a preamp for just about any sound source today but that does not mean you need an external stand-alone device. Many good interfaces come with a built-in preamp which can be good enough. Getting Started. At some point you may want to add an external preamp to your equipment arsenal but getting started in your home studio does not mean having to spend a ton of money on your equipment. There is no need to dump more money than you must on preamp equipment especially since it is built in with much of the software that is available. Most audio interfaces come with a preamp built, you may get to the point where you need something that offers you a bit more, and after some experience you may want to invest but for your home studio right now it is highly recommended that you don’t invest just yet. What You Need to Know. The fact is most built in preamps that come with audio interfaces do not give you the range that you may want. You can expect gains of 40db-50 dB. with the built-in preamps, over that the sound gets foggy after adding more gains. In other words, do not expect your built in to give you what a stand-alone preamp can, because it cannot. There are some other differences that we will go over in the tutorial. For some people the difference will be minor and not enough to run out and buy a high dollar preamp, for others the built ins will just not be enough. Should You Buy an Expensive Preamp. Ultimately the choice is all yours. We will go over some of the sound differences between a stand alone and a built in to help you decide. The sound is different between the two the levels are higher with the stand alone, but it really depends on what you are trying to achieve and overall how advanced your setup is. If you prefer vintage tube flair or another specialty sound you likely are not going to get it from the built in. You will need to pay the price for the preamp. Another reason you may be compelled to get the stand alone is because there are features that you just cannot get with the built in. One of the ways to get the best of both worlds is to consider a budget preamp. They are cost effective and you can get the perfect sound. This tutorial will go over some options that can be affordable and deliver the function that you want to produce like a pro. Toyota Supra Heritage The GR Supra Racing Concept revives the great heritage of one of Toyota’s most famous sports cars. The Supra name evokes power, performance and handling that defined a succession of world-class cars for a quarter of a century.
