Key Financial Metrics and Ratios: ROA, ROE, and ROIC
Learn key financial metrics & ratios to analyze companies financial statements. By http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers" You’ll learn about the key metrics and ratios used to analyze companies’ financial statements, including Return on Equity (ROE), Return on Assets (ROA), and Return on Invested Capital (ROIC), as well as Inventory Turnover, Receivables Turnover, Payables Turnover, the Current Ratio, and the Asset Turnover Ratio. Table of Contents: 1:15 Why Metrics and Ratios Matter 4:58 Return on Equity (ROE), Return on Assets (ROA), and Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) 10:50 Asset-Based and Turnover-Based Ratios 14:40 Interpretation of Key Metrics and Ratios for Wal-Mart, Amazon, and Salesforce 19:32 Why the Key Metrics and Ratios Are Sometimes Not That Useful Why Metrics and Ratios? They let you evaluate and compare different companies, and see why one company might be worth more (higher valuation multiple) than others. They let you answer questions such as: How much equity is required to generate a certain amount of after-tax profit (Net Income)? How much in assets is required to generate a certain amount of after-tax profit (Net Income)? How much total capital is required to do this? How dependent is a company on its assets? How liquid is the company? Can it meet its obligations? How quickly does it sell all its Inventory, pay its outstanding invoices, and collect its receivables? ROA, ROA, and ROIC Return on Equity (ROE) = Net Income / Average Shareholders’ Equity Return on Assets (ROA) = Net Income / Average Assets Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) = NOPAT / (Total Debt + Equity + Other Long-Term Funding Sources) Return on Equity (ROE): How efficiently is a company using its equity to generate after-tax profits? Return on Assets (ROA): How well is a company using its assets / how dependent is it on them? Return on Invested Capital (ROIC): How well is a company using ALL its capital, or how much capital is required to grow its business? Here, Wal-Mart easily ranks #1 in all these metrics because it has a very high ROE of 20-25%, an ROA of close to 10%, and an ROIC of 13-14%; for Amazon and Salesforce, these numbers are negative or close to 0%. Asset-Based Ratios and Turnover-Based Ratios Asset Turnover Ratio = Revenue / Average Assets How dependent is a company on its asset base to generate revenue? Current Ratio = Current Assets / Current Liabilities How liquid is a company? Can it use its short-term assets to repay its short-term obligations, if required? Inventory Turnover = COGS / Average Inventory How many times per year does a company sell off all its Inventory? Receivables Turnover = Revenue / Average AR How quickly does a company collect its receivables from customers that haven’t paid in cash yet? Payables Turnover = COGS / Average AP (*) How quickly does a company submit cash payment for outstanding invoices? Interpretation of Figures for Wal-Mart, Amazon, and Salesforce On the surface, many of these metrics make Wal-Mart seem like a "better" company - much higher ROE, ROA, and ROIC, and Amazon is negative on some of those! Wal-Mart tends to have higher margins as well, and shows more consistency with those margins. Similar inventory management, but Wal-Mart collects from customers and pays invoices much more quickly than Amazon. Wal-Mart is levered a bit more heavily, though. And yet… Amazon is a much more expensive stock, or at least it was at this point in time, and the market values it much more highly based on metrics such as the P / E ratio. At the time of this analysis, Wal-Mart P / E Ratio = 16x, and Amazon P / E Ratio = 456x! How could that be possible? Is Amazon really nearly 30x as valuable as Wal-Mart with WORSE metrics? Answer: The "Revenue Growth" line tells the whole story here. You're comparing 2 very different companies – one is a mature, predictable, mostly slow-growing firm, and one is growing revenue at 20-30% per year, despite revenue in the tens of billions already. Admittedly, Amazon's valuation still seems ridiculous, but it's not that surprising it's valued more highly than Wal-Mart, given that it's growing 20-30x more quickly. The Bottom-Line: These metrics are MOST useful when comparing companies of similar sizes, growth rates, and margins – not as useful when you're comparing a high-growth company to a stable, mature firm. How To Invest Your Money To Get 10% Annual Returns (consistently)
Note: Right now my seasoned notes are getting 8% annual returns now. This happened after I made the video Affiliate Link to Prosper: http://prosper.evyy.net/c/133515/27098/994 I invest my money mostly in high risk loans: E, D, and HR grade. Instagram: http://www.Instagram.com/MinorityMindset Facebook: http://www.Facebook.com/MinorityMindset I'm Jaspreet Singh & I created Minority Mindset to motivate, teach, and inspire others to do what they want. While going to school and starting my businesses, I realized school is really good at teaching you to be an employee, but it doesn’t teach you to create value & it doesn’t teach you anything about financial literacy. That’s why we’re here. And, no, we are not trying to sell you one of those “bootcamps” or “masterclasses” on how to get rich. A community of hustlers and entrepreneurs; we are on a mission to motivate, teach, and inspire entrepreneurs and hustlers to be the best they can be, because average sucks. Only a minority of people will risk it all to make their dreams a reality - will you? #ThinkMinority #MIH #FinancialLiteracy There is an epidemic taking over the world that no one wants to talk about. It is one of the leading causes of suicide, divorce, and depression. Yet, we are still scared to talk about it. It’s called Financial illiteracy. Numbers don’t lie. 76% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. 50% of Americans have no money in savings at all. And almost 70% of seniors over 65 looking to retire have less than 60k in retirement savings. It costs money to eat, it costs money to have a roof over our head, and it costs money to drive a car. We need money in order to survive, but ironically school won’t teach you a think about money. Oh so you took a finance class? When was the last time your teacher taught you how to become a millionaire with 4 dollars a day? Or When was the last time someone told you that saving/investing money in the bank is a 100% guaranteed, guaranteed route to being broke? Don’t believe me? The cost of things go up by 3% a year, its called inflation. That means if a pack of gum costs 1 dollar on January 1, at the end of the year, it will cost about 1 dollar and 3 cents. In the bank, your money grows by .03%. So if you put 1 dollar in the bank January 1, you your money will grow by .0003 cents. The price of gum went up to 1.03 but your dollar is only worth 1.0003. meaning you can no longer afford that gum because your investment lost you money. Every year your money sits in the bank, it loses over 2% of its value. If you had a million dollars, you just lost between 20k – 30k through this safe investment called the bank. Rule number 1 of investing: don’t invest when you are guaranteed to lose. That’s why rich people won’t “invest” a million dollars in the bank.So why do banks want us to lose money? Because they take each dollar that you deposit and they immediately loan it out at a much higher interest rate. They pay you and me almost no interest and they charge us 4% when we want to borrow it. But wait that’s not all, the banks have figured out a way to use something called fractional lending to take that one dollar you deposited and turn it in to lots of dollars so they can lend it out again and again and again making 4% every time it is lent out, while you continue to lose money. Maybe that’s why the banks spend 17 billion dollars a year on advertising. So we can pay them to become rich, while we become broke. That’s why Minority Mindset is here. The majority of people work their whole life so one day they can retire to finally live the life they want, all while they are sacrificing their time, their health, and their youth. But why not live life on your terms, getting paid what you want, so you can do what you enjoy. Unrealistic? Yeah that’s what the majority of people say. Which is why it will always be unrealistic for them. As Steven Covey says, you have to start with the end in mind. If that is the type of life you want to live, then you have to work towards that goal. If you don’t want to live like the majority, then you can’t do what the majority does. It not going to be easy, it’s not going to happen by itself, and no one is going to do it for you. But it can be done, and you can do it too but you have to be willing to work for it. No more excuses. So subscribe to the Minority Mindset http://www.TheMinorityMindset.com This Video: https://youtu.be/RxLpYtUt6sc Channel: http://www.YouTube.com/MinorityMindset Based in Detroit. 19. Investment Banks
Financial Markets (2011) (ECON 252) Professor Shiller characterizes investment banking by contrasting it to consulting, commercial banking, and securities trading. Then, in order to see the essence of investment banking, he reviews some of the principles that John Whitehead, the former chairman of Goldman Sachs, has formulated. These principles are the basis for a discussion of the substantial power that investment bankers have, and their role in society. Government regulation of these powerful investment banks has been a thorny issue for many years, and especially so now since they played a significant role in world financial crisis of the 2000s. 00:00 - Chapter 1. How Do Investment Banks Work? What is Investment Banking? How Do Investment Banks Work? The investment banking division is sometimes referred to as corporate finance and is broadly split into 2 sectors, products and industries. The purpose of both is to provide advisory on transactions, mergers and acquisitions and to arrange (and sometimes even provide) financing for these transactions. This area of banking is the subject of the popular book “Monkey Business: Swinging Through the Wall Street Jungle”. Investment banks are categorized as a "bulge bracket" bank, regional bank or a boutique. Larger banks are considered to be bulge bracket banks and offer a full service approach to clients. The bulge bracket is comprised of nine top banks that include Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Barclays Capital and JP Morgan Chase. Money and Finance: Crash Course Economics #11
So, we've been putting off a kind of basic question here. What is money? What is currency? How are the two different. Well, not to give away too much, but money has a few basic functions. It acts as a store of value, a medium of exchange, and as a unit of account. Money isn't just bills and coins. It can be anything that meets these three criteria. In US prisons, apparently, pouches of Mackerel are currency. Yes, mackerel the fish. Paper and coins work as money because they're backed by the government, which is an advantage over mackerel. So, once you've got money, you need finance. We'll talk about borrowing, lending, interest, and stocks and bonds. Also, this episode features a giant zucchini, which Adriene grew in her garden. So that's cool. Pesos and Sense Explains "Early Investing with BPI"
Help us promote Financial Education http://freedominfinancial.blogspot.com/ PESOS AND SENSE is an educational company that covers a wide range of personal finance and investment topics that typically intimidates the average Filipino: the stock market, mutual funds, insurance, budgeting and debt management etc. Our goal is to empower Filipinos by teaching simple and practical knowledge in making independent and wise choices in handling their money. PESOS AND SENSE started as a TV show in September 2011 on GMA News TV (11). It was a weekly Sunday morning show that tackled personal finance and investments, simplifying it to a more approachable and doable sense. The show was hosted by Investment Advocate Mr. Aya Laraya who has 25 years of finance and investment experience. He is a Certified Securities representative, a Certified Investment Company representative, a realtor, and a writer with an MBA from University of Western Australia. He started his stint in the stock market as a simple runner for the old Philippine Stock Exchange. On top of being a licensed stockbroker, he gained relevant experience from other industries such as mutual funds, real estate and banking. He also shared his financial wisdom with the youth as a professor at the Ateneo de Manila University. Original Video from: http://www.youtube.com/user/PesosAndSense

Skip Your Bank! These 7 Options Will Make You MUCH More Money.
Let’s see if this sounds familiar….you have some money sitting in a savings account and it is probably making next to nothing. If you are not really sure what to do, you have several options. 🤔 You can go to a bank and stick it in a savings or money market account, chances are they are not going to pay you anything. If there were, you wouldn’t be watching this video. With that in mind, I want to talk about 7 alternatives to placing you savings into a bank. 🏦 I am also going to share a client story with you about where a client was keeping his cash. (You won’t believe where he was keeping it or how much he was keeping there!) So let's dive right into your options: ➡️ Online savings [1:10] - Any sort of online savings or bank account (just make sure they have FDIC). They have a lot less overhead than traditional brick and mortar - this could mean higher interest rates. ➡️ US Treasuries (TBills) [3:54] - It may seem a little old school - but you can do all of this online. ➡️ High Dividend Stocks [4:42] - This is a little higher risk and not somewhere you want short-term money. Just because a stock pays a dividend doesn’t mean it won’t drop in value. ➡️ Bonds [6:27] - You are most likely not going to buy individual bonds, but rather bond mutual funds. I would suggest ETFs, just remember higher yield = higher risk. ➡️ Blended Portfolio [9:30] - This would be a mix of stocks and bonds, and utilizing ETFs to get this blend. You can utilize a platform like Betterment or Wealthfront. 🤯 Before we get to the last two, I want to tell you about this client ...he had $140,000 in a safe in his basement. I can’t remember how long he had this cash sitting there, but I thought it was crazy. Sitting there, making nothing for him. This is an option that you DO NOT pick.🤯 ➡️ Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) [12:14] - This is a way to invest in real estate without managing properties. You can buy these many different ways, the simplest is to buy a REIT ETF. Another is online real estate investing, my favorite platform for this is Fundrise. ➡️ Peer-To-Peer Lending [14:25] - This allows YOU to be the bank. You are lending money to other peers. The great thing is, you can see their reasons for borrowing. This allows you to set your risk level. That is my top 7 alternatives to bank accounts. You can pick as many or as few of these options as you like. I just wanted to share that there is more than one way to invest and earn interest. Which options sounds the most attractive to you? Are you already using one or more of these options? Let us know how this is going for you. ★☆★Resources Mentioned in Video★☆★ 📉 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/fundrise-youtube-invest-500.php 📉https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/lendingclubinv-youtube-get-started-with-lc.php 📈 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/betterment-youtube-invest-500.php 📉 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/ally-youtube-invest-500.php 📉 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/resources/etrade-youtube-invest-500.php ★☆★ Want More Good Financial Cents? ★☆★ 💻 Check out my blog here: https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/ Listen to my podcast here: 🎙 https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/good-financial-cents-podcast-investing-building-wealth/id775107294?mt=2 Pick up my best selling book, Soldier of Finance, here: 📗 http://amzn.to/2xOH78V Connect with me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/jjeffrose My most favorite inspiration T-shirt line, Compete Every Day: 👕 https://www.goodfinancialcents.com/compete

Your BEST Investment As A Consultant (300%+ ROI)
You're probably investing your money in stocks -- but if you're a consulting business owner, this is the BEST investment you can make. LEARN MORE HERE: https://www.consultingsuccess.com/your-best-investment-as-a-consultant TRANSCRIPT: Are you interested in growing your wealth? And I don’t mean just money, but I mean really thinking about the impact that money is going to have and what it can allow you to do. Greater freedom and flexibility allows you to spend a lot more time with your loved ones and serving your community — or doing whatever it is that is meaningful to you. That’s what real wealth is all about and real freedom is all about. So if you think about what is the best way to create real wealth and real freedom, let’s actually break down what the options are to you. I think a lot of consultants misunderstand the true options that are available to them and there are ways for you to create wealth much faster. So let’s look here at a situation where a lot of people will put money into their bank. They’ll keep it there. They feel that it’s safe there and they’re stocking away for some rainy day. Let’s say you put $10,000 into your bank account. And of course, you can multiply these numbers by significantly more if I’m just gonna use this to keep the example very simple. Let’s say here that you have your high-interest savings account in your bank and that gives you 2.5% percent interest. That means in 12 months you’ll have earned about $250 from the $10,000 that you’ve kept in the bank. Not a very good return on your investment, right? Not very exciting to me, making $250 from that money. Hopefully, you don’t have that much money just sitting in the bank. Maybe you’ve put it into something like stocks and you have money it the equity markets. Historically, if you’re investing $10,000 and historically the markets produce around 9.8% return on our investment or interest on an annual basis. I’m sure you can find a lot of other examples and give me specifics that will over the last X number of years — but historically this is what they provide. And in fact, I would argue that most investors would be quite happy with a 9.8% return on their investment if it’s done in a way that keeps the risk low and provides overall, stability for the long-term. If you did that, you have $980 in interest that you have earned from your $10K investment. Is that great? It’s not that exciting, right? Even if you double this amount you wouldn’t be making that much. It might seem like a nice number and you definitely want to have some money generating 90% for you — because that’s a good number. Let’s really talk about wealth — and let’s say as a consultant, you invest $10,000 into your own business within a 12 month period. ...

BEST Banking Stocks - Banking Sector Fundamental Analysis | Part 3
To select BEST Banking Stocks based on Fundamental Analysis is important for long term investment. This video is 3rd and last part of the series on banking stocks fundamental analysis. In the 1st part, we discussed how do banks make profit? In the 2nd part to select best banking stocks, we discussed the 4 important financial ratios to analyze and compare the banking stocks for long term stock selection. For analysis, i have considered banking stocks in Nifty 50 like SBI, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank, HDFC Bank, Indusind Bank, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. The banks with 4 financial ratios within the ideal range are best suited for long term investment. As we know that financial sector contribute almost 1/3rd contribution in Nifty. Therefore, it is important to select the fundamentally strong banking stock. The most important ratio is Return on Equity. I will prefer banking stock with Return on Assets greater than 1% but with higher NIM (Net Interest Margin) i.e. more than 3%. The equity multiplier or financial leverage tells the risk taken by the bank in terms of deposits collected from the customers. The BEST Banking Stocks fundamental analysis shared in this three part series can be done very easily by the long term investors in very less time. Infinite Banking: Boost Investment Returns
Infinite Banking: Boost Investment Returns. How does the cash value inside a life insurance policy boost investment returns in real estate? And why is this a better strategy than using cash https://themoneyadvantage.com/boost-investment-returns/ #MoneyAdvantage - Transcript So how exactly do I use the cash value inside my life insurance policy to invest in real estate? And why is this a better strategy than using my own cash? The first reason this is a more powerful tool for you is when you store your cash in a place that has a higher growth rate, you will accelerate the volume of capital that you build in that asset over time. When we look at specially-designed life insurance, which is a whole life insurance policy with maximum paid-up addition riders, you have the ability to grow cash value as quickly as possible with the longest term, highest growth rate. What this does is it amplifies the volume of cash you were able to grow over time. Boost Investment Returns Secondly, when I use my life insurance cash value to purchase real estate, I'm not actually using my cash value, I'm borrowing against it. And here's why that makes the biggest difference in the world. It's because when I borrow against my cash value, my cash value stays intact and it continues growing with dividends and interest inside the policy. Now I've taken a loan against that policy, and I've used the life insurance company's money to invest in real estate and I'm able to generate returns now over in the rental real estate investment. Essentially, my money is making two returns in two different places at the same time. Now I'm able to use the cash flow from the rental real estate to pay back the loan against my life insurance policy and then once I pay that down, I'm able to use that money again for the same type of opportunity. I keep my money growing and compounding. I never reset that compounding curve, and I always maintain access to my capital. In this way, I'm able to earn returns in two places at the same time and accelerate my rate of cash flow. You can find out more about this concept in the free video course on privatized banking (https://themoneyadvantage.com/liquid-capital), which helps you to understand the life insurance product that we use and how to use it to generate higher returns on your cash-flowing investments.  Infinite Banking with life insurance is a powerful way to accelerate time and money freedom in your financial life.

Counterparty Risk; Investment Banks, Broker Dealers etc.
Mark Fisher of MBF Clearing corp. explains inter-bank credit and/or transaction risks. A large part of this financial crisis has to do with the faith these institutions have of each other. If you take an example he gives where there are 2 people in a room of a hundred that have a disease that is highly contagious and you don't know who it is then you would not want to go near any of them. That's the situation as of today prior to this they would try to determine who the contagious ones were and keep those away by asking for more collateral for the same assets. Just before Lehman went under J.P. Morgan asked them for $5 Billion in additional collateral in a preventive move as they did with Merrill Lynch.

Cover Story: Guaranteed Return Investment Still Exist
www.abndigital.com Do you remember the good old days when banks were there to help you save money? While interest rates continue to be stuck at historic lows, Finweek went out to find out whether there were any traditional savings vehicles that financial advisors would recommend that still carry the title of "Guaranteed return" products. For more on these recommendations ABN'S Samantha Loring is joined by Craig Cradidge, Director of Investments at GM Investments and Graham Wood, Senior Financial Advisor at Old Mutual.

Wealthy People Dont Use Banks | Cash Equivalents
http://ojc.myecon.net/opportunity-video/ Call/Text: 678-837-5863 Email: [email protected] Why wealthy people do not use banks to create their wealth. There are several investment options in the financial industry with varying degrees of risk versus reward. Many people believe the bank is the first place to go should you want to save your money and start investing and create wealth. I am going to explain to you why the bank is the last place the wealthy go to invest their money. Banks are in abundance all over the country and chances are great that you have an account their. Banks offer one form of investments which are known as cash equivalents. Cash equivalents come in the form of checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposits also known as CD’s, money market funds, savings bonds and treasury bills. A cash equivalent offers a low risk, low return profile. They are the most liquid assets that you can invest in and are convertible into cash. Savings accounts, money market holdings, certificates of deposits, short-term government bonds or Treasury bills are all considered cash equivalents. Islamabad Property Analysis with respect to Investment return by Adnan Episode 1
My name is Muhammad Adnan and I have started that channel (Research by Adnan) by having many reasons in my mind but the main driving force in the back of mind is to earn some prayers and best wishes from my viewers. And I will try to give you my answers about your investment, remember that I always take Big Picture of any area in my mind. I usually take data input from everyone around me or I also prefer to visit the area to examine its real worth. I myself is involved in real estate investment for last few years and I enjoy Real estate because of its profound depth like an ocean. Real estate is an only type of investment available for a common man in Pakistan. other than that there are corporate Sharks who are famous for their greed. Banks are renowned for lending you Umbrella in a Hot sunny day but they will instantly demand back their umbrella when they smell bad weather from far. . Right now in the horizon of Pakistan Banks are paying a return of not more than 4% to 6% on investment which also depend on term deposit. more you invest you sum for long more you will be get paid that include all major banks like Allied bank, united bank, Habib bank, bank al Habib, Askari bank, chartered Bank, Muslim commercial bank except silk bank which is giving some high return but they are new in the sector of Banking Arena. . Now let's come to our first Episode, which I designed by taking all raw data from internet and that includes both sectors of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Actually, the main motif is to compare the data of one area of society with the totally different rising area that will conclude you a money cash flow pattern on its developed old schemes and emerging schemes. . I have taken your investment as a two-way sword, one objective is to earn Cashflow on monthly basis and the 2nd objective for most common folks is to earn house for the sake of margin of profit. I have analyzed following areas just to observe the range of profit. -- (Pattern of Cash Flow in Pindi Islamabad developed sectors): Askari 13 (Ayub Park, Officers Colony, DHA 1 RWP and Bahria 7-8 area) 6 marla and 7 marla homes in Askari 13 near Ayub Park area costing you 1.75 crore with 4 beds and rent range from 40 to 45 thousand. so the return on your investment will be 3% percent in askari 13. Bahria 1 to 6 Rawalpindi Islamabad near PWD / Police Foundation and Media Town This area of Bahria is renowned for its masterpiece beauty and planning that why people start trusting the area. That area is working at full capacity that's why you find no plots except few so the pricing of house and rent rate is unanimous in all over the scheme I have examined some of its sectors from phase 1 to phase 6 then concluded my views on investment return DHA 2 Rawalpindi (Near Bahria 1-6 and Islamabad highway area, new model town hummak) DHA 2 is situated near Islamabad highway neighboring with Bahria 1 to 6 and 7 to 8. Rates are high in this area but they are at par with DHA 1. Why they are same because they both are working in full capacity. . I have concluded all the price range of houses and Rental rate in DHA 2. Chaklala Scheme 3 (Analysis by Adnan Researcher) I deduce investment return of chaklala scheme 3 and you can find everything in video, on what basis you can earn cash flow by purchasing house in chaklala then renting it out I also covered the many areas in Video Moreover I also examined margin of profit by construction home in the following area by having a plot.
