What is Foreign direct investment in Iran?, Explain Foreign direct investment in Iran

~~~ Foreign direct investment in Iran ~~~ Title: What is Foreign direct investment in Iran?, Explain Foreign direct investment in Iran Created on: 2018-10-23 Source Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_direct_investment_in_Iran ------ Description: Foreign direct investment in Iran has been hindered by unfavorable or complex operating requirements and by international sanctions, although in the early 2000s the Iranian government liberalized investment regulations. Iran ranks 62nd in the World Economic Forum's 2011 analysis of the global competitiveness of 142 countries. In 2010, Iran ranked sixth globally in attracting foreign investments.Foreign investors have concentrated their activity in a few sectors of the economy: the oil and gas industries, vehicle manufacture, copper mining, petrochemicals, foods, and pharmaceuticals. Iran absorbed US.3 billion of foreign investment from 1993 to 2007 and US.6 billion for 485 projects from 1992 to 2009.Opening Iran’s market place to foreign investment could also be a boon to competitive multinational firms operating in a variety of manufacturing and service sectors, worth billion to billion in new investment opportunities over the next decade. ------ To see your favorite topic here, fill out this request form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScU0dLbeWsc01IC0AaO8sgaSgxMFtvBL31c_pjnwEZUiq99Fw/viewform ------ Source: Wikipedia.org articles, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Indonesia’s economy is on the rise and thus seeing the country take its rightful position as a major destination for foreign direct investment (FDI). In terms of future outlook, Indonesia is entering a ‘sweet spot’ as a convergence of its young, working population with that of relatively stable inflation and sustained economic growth is fuelling consumer spending. Finally, the country’s resilience over the course of the global financial crisis illustrated the merits of its immense population and economic self-reliance. Foreign Investment Trophy 2018 - Novartis, a treat for the eyes in Flanders
02:05
Cast your vote at https://www.foreigninvestmenttrophy.be. Novartis invests in its production site in Puurs to drive the future of eyecare products. On February 27th, 2018, Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) will be hosting its 6th consecutive Foreign Investment Trophy. The event will see 5 international companies – that announced or made an investment in the region of Flanders in the past year – compete for the Foreign Investment of the Year Trophy. One of the contestants is Swiss pharma giant Novartis. Koen Strobbe, general manager at Novartis Puurs, was happy to comment on the nomination during a tour at the company’s premises in Puurs, Flanders. “This place is called Hof van Coolhem, located in the heart of the asparagus region”, says Koen Strobbe, general manager at Alcon Novartis in Puurs. “Asparagus is a quality product that is obtained through diligent work and perseverance. We are happy to see these characteristics reflected in our employees as well. They are the reason why companies here along the Rijksweg are so successful.” “Alcon is one of the divisions of Novartis. We are a Novartis product site that makes eyedrops, eye ointment and viscoelastics. We also make ‘custom packs’: surgical packages that are used during cataract operations.” “Novartis has invested a lot in this production site recently, including a total investment of more EUR 100 million over the last 4 years. The main goal is to turn us into a site capable of producing biological products in the form of syringes. The first step was to build a new analytical laboratory that can analyze biological products. These investments have led to the installation of an isolator filling line.” “We produce over 220 million units of eyedrops. Our site is located in the heart of Flanders and Europe. We are an export-driven company: 98% of what we make is destined for export to 155 countries. From a distribution point of view, we are in the perfect spot. Foreign Direct Investment Distribution to World Cities
01:29
The 3D GIS foreign investment model has been developed by Ronald Wall at The University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The animation was created together with Alex Levering and forms a supplement to the recently published report "UN State of African Cities 2018: The geography of African investment". @WALLGLOBALCITY This animation depicts total foreign direct investment (FDI) received by approximately 1200 cities around the world (2003 - 2014). Because these cities receive investment it is called destination FDI. The study is based on data from fDi Markets and ORBIS. FDI is the investment made by multinational firms in particular cities, into production, control, services and marketing facilities around the world. These flows of capital tie world cities together into an extremely complex but hierarchic network and form an uneven geography of investment. FDI is one of the key indicators of a city's integration into the world economy and explains about 50% of global GDP. These foreign investments are in most cases beneficial to urban development but can often have a negative impact. Through econometric and GIS analysis the effect of FDI on global cities can be measured, or alternatively, used to measure the factors which attract investments to cities. Based on these results, urban recommendations can be made and policy developed on how to support a city's economic growth and make it more competitive and inclusive. In the animated globe, we see that the world economy is not even, but instead the geographic distribution of FDI is very disproportionate (spiky). It is evident that the Global North holds most investment, while the majority of the world's population is situated in the Global South. It is also seen that the highest density of investment is in Europe, North America, and Pacific Asia. Understanding the urban determinants of FDI flows (for different industrial sectors) is one of the key challenges in developing sustainable cities. Only when we address cities as being part of complex regional and global systems, can we really take on the challenges of sustainability, resilience and smartness. It is this complex economic system that forms the backbone of the predicaments of climate change, and rising economic and social inequality, at local, regional and global scales. With big data availability and increasingly powerful algorithms and methods, an era has arrived where it becomes possible to technically and politically address the functional performance and structural geography of this disproportionate worldwide system. TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE WORLD URBAN SYSTEM. This research forms part of the UN-Habitat report "State of African Cities 2018: The Geography of African Investment". https://unhabitat.org/books/the-state-of-african-cities-2018-the-geography-of-african-investment/ The author can be contacted on Twitter at @WALLGLOBALCITY or on LinkedIn Ronald Wall
Foreign Direct Investment in INSURANCE SECTOR - TAMIL
03:53
100% FDI in insurance broking. The government is likely to approve 100 percent foreign direct investments (FDI) in insurance broking. Approval will, however, come with caveats such as having a certain percentage of Indian members on the board as well as curbing outsourcing of activities. Insurance intermediaries like brokers, corporate agents as well as insurance companies so far were allowed a maximum permissible limit of 49 percent FDI, while the remaining 51 percent was to be held by Indian entities. An insurance broker is an intermediary who acts as a middle man between the insurance company and the client to get them the most adequate cover at the best rate. In return, they earn commissions for the product sold. Sources said that the approval will be issued by the authorities in the next couple of months. In non-life insurance, the gross direct premium by brokers grew from around Rs 19,274 crore in FY15 to almost Rs 30,000 crore in FY18, according to reports. Insurance brokers are most active in the general insurance sector. About 65 percent of the corporate business including segments like group health, fire insurance, project insurance and marine insurance is sourced through these brokers. Meanwhile, the government has made it clear to stakeholders that the increase in FDI will be subject to certain terms and conditions, like core activities such as underwriting and claims management cannot be outsourced. Data collected from the Indian market will have to be stored in the country and global offshore centers of companies within India can also be used for the purpose. Minimum capital requirements could be raised, as currently, direct brokers have to maintain minimum capital of Rs 50 lakh while a composite broker has to maintain minimum capital of Rs 2.5 crore. Dada Pota Show 16-11-2018 | Part 2
22:25
Today, Dada G shared his opinion on important news that FDI continues to fall in Pakistan. Foreign investors have continued to stay away from Pakistan as they are reluctant to make long-term investments in the face of ambiguity about new economic policy of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) dropped 55% to $161.2 million in October 2018, compared with $354.6 million in the same month of last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported on Wednesday. “Uncertainty has probably remained an element behind slowdown in foreign (direct) investment in Pakistan,” Pakistan Business Council Chief Executive Officer Ehsan Malik told The Express Tribune. The current trend of investment these days is mostly for necessary expenditure. Global investors have not made any new long-term investment in any sector of the economy since long. A source anticipated the FDI may remain low in the short-to-medium run since Finance Minister Asad Umar told a foreign investors’ advocacy body last week that the government was interested in attracting FDI in export projects and/or import substitution projects in Pakistan, instead of continuing to attract the investment in consumer goods sector. The minister also urged the body for technology transfer into Pakistan along with FDIs. The shift in the policy towards attracting FDI in new sectors would help the government narrow down the current account deficit and lower burden on the country’s foreign currency reserves, he added. Cumulatively in the first four months (July-October) of the current fiscal year, 2019, the foreign direct investment decreased 46% to $600.7 million compared with $1.1 billion made in the same period last year, according to the central bank data.
2018/09/28: Has Trump failed foreign investors? | Macedonia vote: new country name, new geopolitics?
27:50
Foreign direct investment into the US in the second quarter of 2018 turned negative, as the Trump administration hardens its trade policy with more tariff action to come. Is Trump's trade stance to blame? Macedonians are heading to the polls on September 30 to vote on whether to add “North” to their country’s names. Greece says the name Macedonia implies territorial claims on the northern Greek region with the same name—an argument that has led to Greece vetoing Macedonia’s bid to join NATO and the EU. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) dropped 55% to $161.2 million in October 2018, compared with $354.6 million in the same month of last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported on Wednesday. “Uncertainty has probably remained an element behind slowdown in foreign (direct) investment in Pakistan,” Pakistan Business Council Chief Executive Officer Ehsan Malik told The Express Tribune. The current trend of investment these days is mostly for necessary expenditure. Global investors have not made any new long-term investment in any sector of the economy since long. A source anticipated the FDI may remain low in the short-to-medium run since Finance Minister Asad Umar told a foreign investors’ advocacy body last week that the government was interested in attracting FDI in export projects and/or import substitution projects in Pakistan, instead of continuing to attract the investment in consumer goods sector. The minister also urged the body for technology transfer into Pakistan along with FDIs. The shift in the policy towards attracting FDI in new sectors would help the government narrow down the current account deficit and lower burden on the country’s foreign currency reserves, he added. Cumulatively in the first four months (July-October) of the current fiscal year, 2019, the foreign direct investment decreased 46% to $600.7 million compared with $1.1 billion made in the same period last year, according to the central bank data.
Sub Saharan Africa faces a Foreign Direct Investment paradox
04:12
Sub Saharan Africa is facing a Foreign Direct Investment paradox as a region attracting the lowest share of global net FDI yet offering the highest rate of return. So says a leading United Nations economist who has penned an article aimed at addressing this contradiction. Sub Saharan Africa attracted just 1.87% of global FDI between 2010 and 2016 with a view emerging that as a percentage that number should be above 10% at a minimum. For more news, visit: sabcnews.com
Foreign investment in US down sharply | DW | 12.07.2018
http://www.dw.com/en/foreign-investment-in-us-down-sharply/a-44643998 Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States plunged by a staggering 32 percent in 2017 year on year, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis reported. Investment totaled $259.6 billion (€221.2 billion), with the figure representing the second year of decline after a peak in 2015 when foreign investors' expenditure in the US hit $439.5 billion. Last year, most foreign investments in the US came from neighboring Canada which contributed $66.2 billion. European Union member states accounted for 40 percent of the 2017 FDI total. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the drop in foreign investment in the United States is part of a global trend. Not just a US problem OECD researchers noted that FDI levels were down 18 percent worldwide in 2017. "The high levels in 2015 and 2016 were partly due to financial and corporate restructuring, but it is also likely that the possibility of tax reform decreased incentives to engage in these types of transactions in 2017," the OECD said in a statement. Following this logic, investment in the US could pick up again in 2018, after the Trump administration passed a tax reform put forward by the president. On the other hand, the positive tax-related effects could be canceled out by investors' fears about the long-term impact of Donald Trump's trade conflicts with China, the EU and other regions.
