Their lives only have meaning if they are reaching out and striving for their goals, at least this is what Aristotle said sometime around 330 B.C. The notion of purpose is the origin of goal setting theory. Let’s start with the basics…what are goals? For our purposes, a goal is “the object of a person’s ambition, an aim or desired result.” Bottom line, it’s something we work towards, something we want to achieve and we put steps in place to do it. Almost an unlimited number of goal types exist. Your business environment and industry may dictate what type of goals your management team sets and flows down into the organization. For example, during a business strategy session, leaders may create long term goals with a typical target timeframe of 5 years or more. They’ll break these down to shorter term goals. Then, your organizations high level long term and short term goals will be broken down at a department level. Marketing/Sales, Finance, Production/Quality, Supply Chain, Human Resources! You got it. You’ll need to develop plans and objectives to support the business goals. That’s a whole other course. And finally, managers and employees can work together on building their goals.

(10) Be prompt without being hasty, quick without being aggressive. (11) Establish a rapport with the interviewers. (12) Emit vivacity and enthusiasm from yours looks and expressions. (13) Be perfectly normal. (14) Show pleasing and graceful manners, sufficient politeness and verve. (15) Be smartly and soberly dressed. (16) Gather adequate general knowledge before appearing at the interview. (17) Tell frankly if you are not able to answer any question or questions, In case the interviewer or interviewers suggest the answer always show gratefulness to them by being nicely thankful to them. (18) Try to show your interest in the job and never give the impression that you are only casually appearing before the interviewers. Don'ts (by PD CLASSES) (1) Do not appear nervous or shaky. Scholars disagree on whether or not human resource management differs between the private and the public sectors, but it is clear that some of the essential principles of the field are remarkably constant. Using the Egyptian pyramids, the Great Wall of China, and the international space station as examples, Prof. Colvin explains how and why human resource management at its core has remained the same for 4,000 years. Roddrick Colvin is an Associate Professor of Public Administration at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York (CUNY). He has published numerous articles on employment policy, minority rights, hate crimes, and international human rights policies in peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal of Public Administration and the Journal of Public Management and Social Policy. At CUNY, Prof. Colvin currently teaches courses in public administration, human resource management, and policy analysis. He has also served on the board of the New York State Political Science Association and is a member of the American Political Science Association. Prof. Colvin holds an MPA in Public Administration from Seattle University and a PhD in Public Administration from the State University of New York in Albany. Pr. Colvin is in Tbilisi as a part of the EWMI G-PAC Master's in Public Administration (MPA) program, which is established in cooperation with the Ilia State University and the Columbia University. EWMI G-PAC is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by East-West Management Institute (EWMI).
