How To Become A Full Time Artist - steps for people who want to make a living from art

20:12
How to Become a Full time Artist - 7 Steps http://www.asideofchange.com/artist-entrepreneur If learning how to become a full time artist is your goal then I congratulate you! You have identified that you have a talent or skill and do not want it to go to waste. A lot of people never make it to this step - finding out what it means to become an artist or learning how to make money as an artist. This video covers the 4 types of aspiring artist. There are usually people who want to transition from a 9 to 5 and create art as a business full time instead of part-time, people who want to become a full time artist entrepreneur but have no experience in this area, people who want to land an art job and do not want to start their own art business at this point, and finally there are people who are just interested in creating passive income ( maybe unrelated to art altogether) so that they have the time to make art or go back to school to hone their craft. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, this video will give you steps to follow on how to become a full time artist. Skip ahead to find the relevant information to you as an artist or creative 3:07 - group #1/ I want to transition from my 9 to 5 job and make money as a full-time artist instead of just on the weekends - Your main goal is to sell art 8:27 - group #2/ I want to become an artist entrepreneur...meaning that a becoming a full-time artist is so important to you that you will do what it takes to start well. That means honing your craft, possible setting up an LLC (see link at bottom), and learning how to sell art. Knowing how to make money as an artist is one thing...and knowing how to become a full time artist and make a living from art is an entirely different picture. It does require a burning desire and a specific skill set. 10:40 - group #3/ I want a job in art, design or entertainment. You want to make a living from art...but you are more interested in becoming employed by a company. You are less interested in art work from home jobs and more interested in a professional artist 9 to 5. There are millions of jobs each year in art and design, you just have to prepare yourself by thinking about what education is required to fill that professional, full-time artist job and how to stay on top of your talent as a professional artist. My advice to you is to never stop learning!! :) 13:26 - group #4/ I hate my job, but I need the money - therefore I need passive income so that I can survive and concentrate on my art. Wow, this group of people are great...because they have massive drive most of the time. They want to have a successful art business or make a living from art, but they know that their soul sucking 9 to 5 job will not give them enough creative energy or time to do it. They want to know how to become a full time artist without doing something that they hate in order to earn money. They just need to know how to make money (preferably make money from home online) so they can pay bills and live off of while they concentrate on their art. This is a bold move and so rewarding in the end. No matter what category you see yourself in, I want to remind you of one of my favorite Tim Olsen quotes: "Successful people do what unsuccessful people are unwilling to do". Are you willing to do whatever it takes in order to become a full-time artist? Once you watch this video there are a few details that you are going to want to make sure you understand. These include marketing art and how to make money as an artist online. I go into these details in the link at the top of the page. To watch the replay of How To Become A Full Time Artist on my blog post go here: http://www.asideofchange.com/how-to-become-a-full-time-artist/ If you are serious about learning how to start an art business and want to start an LLC, here is a link to help you better understand the process. Art Business - How to promote your art business

10:02
http://www.evancarmichael.com/support/ - SUPPORT ME :) Like this video? Please give it a thumbs up below and/or leave a comment - Thank you!!! "Hey Evan, I have been following for a while. I love the positive encouragement and the likeable social media you have created with sharing etc. I read and follow as much as I can. What I can't find and maybe you can help direct me to the right place is somewhere that I can find information that isn't as broad. I see many things about entrepreneurs, how to etc but it dosen't quite fit the mold of what I do. So many articles I have found talk about business will fail. Just toss it, rack it up as a learned experience and try again. Or help like find who your customers are. I know who they are by age, income, and all the other items that my insights and google tracking + my sales have told me, but I have a different case which I don't seem to be able to apply some of the methods. If my business fails, then I won't be starting a new one. I am a fine artist. What I sell is my artwork, gifts and merchandise based on my artwork, and eventually video tutorials on painting techniques etc. Only 2% to 5% of the population buys original art. My gifts and merchandise are aimed at home decor, office decor, jewelry and apparel to broaden the market of who will buy my products. Getting loans to open a store are not such a good idea as it takes time to build art clients. That's almost a guaranteed sink. If my business fails, starting a new one won't work. It's not like I'm creating a software app that may or may not hit, then in the next 6 months I'm trying opening a computer hardware repair business. It's not about choosing the right product, I am the product. Getting it right is detrimental to my business. There are quite a few artists who have landed the right path to financial success just like any other entrepreneur. It's a business. I create products, I look for licensing of my images, I create smaller items to purchase for those who don't fall into the 2 - 5 % category. I have to market, network, and promote just like any other business would. Add to that trying to build prestige, creating enough pieces for collections to show at galleries, attending festivals, and making public appearances. So why is it so hard to find information on how to for what I am doing? Information on where to look for Independent Sales Reps would be great. Or where / how to market for niche products? Even though I am more than dedicated and believe in my product / artwork 100%, I find that I am struggling to connect the dots. Most art business help books don't really seem to be geared to creating a large enterprise based on artist products. Instead they try to coddle and persuade artists to become organized as if we were addlepated helpless drooling idiots who can't manage to have a cohesive though. The business advise geared toward us is to take 2 and 3 jobs on top of the full time job we already have creating, promoting, selling, showing, and marketing what we create. I see artists like Tripp Harrison who's Florida gallery takes in over 2 million every year, or Guy Harvey who's products created from his artwork is in every gift shop along the cost in the US as well through the islands and cruise lines. These guys are raking it in. How do I reach that level of entrepreneurship where I am no longer a one person owned small business but instead have multiple employees, sell my products across the globe, and create the business that I see when I create my goals? The standard protocol dosen't seem to apply. Are there resources out there that you know of that you wouldn't mind pointing me in the direction to so that I can help myself progress? Thanks so much for you time, I appreciate it. Allison Richter - allisonrichterwildlifestudio.com" Help us caption & translate this video! http://amara.org/v/DVel/

How To Start An Art Business

05:05
Can you be an artist as a business? Usually no, unless you do this... I am at the university of art in Warsaw. I am going to talk about a very interesting question that someone asked me yesterday and that is: “What is business? Is it really that important?” Not everything in life is business. However, if you want to use the example of art, because we are at the university of art, then artists that are famous are the best business people as well. For example Andy Warhol have spent most of his time not making art, but promoting art. These people are not just sitting in a basement and making a painting that no one is ever going to see. If you just sit in a basement and you are making the art and no one ever sees it, then you will never become relevant. In your lifetime, if you want to become an artist and make money from it and not have a day job, then you need to run it as a business. You will see that a lot of these artists do exactly that. They are very good business people. Because they are good business people, they become famous artists. You can even argue that if you are an artist and you are not a business person, then you are not even an artist, because no one sees your stuff and buys your stuff. Then, are you still an artist? I am not saying you are or you are not. I am just making you think about this. A lot of people ask me question about how to become what they want to become and what should they do. I ask them: “Do you work on your art every single day?” And in fact they are not. They only work on it when it is necessary for school. Basically, they are not really perfecting their art at a speed that is necessary to become world class. When people want to become musician, I ask them: “Are you making music every single day? Are you putting it on YouTube every single day? Are you doing live streams on Facebook every single day?” Then they are like: “Wow, what a great idea. I will start doing it now.” And very rarely they do that. For example, Justin Bieber started making videos on YouTube and it just blew up. He got discovered. People discover you, because there is evidence of what you are doing is awesome. Not just because you are a good singer, but because you have a good audience. A lot of people who discover you now are people who are able to discover the audience. It is very important to understand that. That applies to all types of art. I remember a painter who was doing the basement method. He made a great number of painting and it was an amazing art work and he burned all of his paintings. No one ever saw it, because he was not promoting it very hard. He got frustrated and that is probably why he burned his paintings. An artist who is really serious about his art should be spending 50% / 75% of his time on the art and 50% / 25% of his time on the business side. Once you do that, you will develop an audience. You get positive feedback from the world. You get paid. Then you will be more motivated to become an artist. You will have this positive feedback loop that will allow you to build it as your life goal passion. If you do not follow these steps, you become super frustrated. I have seen this happened with several artists. They become super frustrated, because it does not work. I am not getting discovered. Instead of loving their art more by doing more art, they start resenting it, because they are looking for an excuse that is outside of themselves. They blame the art. They think it is the art’s fault. It is not the art’s fault. You need to take personal responsibility and not be a victim. This applies to all kinds of businesses. Any kind of business can work out. That is what I wanted to share with you today. If you are an artist, let me know what you think in the comments below. If you like this video, then please thumbs up and share it with your friends on Facebook. If you would like more free videos about marketing, sales and entrepreneurship, then please subscribe and I will see you in tomorrow’s video.

5 Tips For Selling Your Art How To Start Selling Your Art Don't forget to subscribe to our other channel Down The Path https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvosMY3k329w2L4PK1_SO_A These are the 5 most important things that I wish I knew before I started selling my artwork. I just two short years, I've transformed into an artist who travels full time. Keep in mind, I am mainly able to travel full time and survive off of an artist's earnings by living small and frugally, especially when travelling. But knowing the best ways to sell art has helped me profit from my art for over two years now. Selling art online can be a daunting task. Where to start selling your art online is one of the toughest choices. Good news is that you don't have to choose just one platform. Etsy is a great place to start and selling art on etsy is a great way to start selling paintings I'm a spray paint artist, however, these tips for how to sell you art should prove helpful for artists of all mediums. I started selling my paintings because I was creating so much that I was starting to run out of storage space. I had found a love for spray paint art and spent every waking moment for months either painting or scouring youtube for the next tip that might take my painting to the next level. I had virtual mentors and teachers and used the techniques I learned to develop my own methods and skills. I've taken this knowledge and begun teaching others and sharing this medium with the world! Spray paint art is the application of spray paint a non-porous material, such as wood, metal, glass, ceramic or plastic. Graffiti Graffiti Art Stencil Art Spray paint art Screen printing Guerrilla art Woodblock graffiti Spray paint art is a unique form of art that is generally performed on the street in large cities. It sometimes features surreal landscapes of planets, comets, pyramids, cities, and nature scenes. The pieces can have a simple one-colored background or a multi-colored backgrounds in which the paint swirls together or fades from one color to the other through a series of differing values of each color. It is said to have originated in Mexico City in the early 1980s.

How to Start an Art Gallery

02:53
With 25 years in the art business and two nationally recognized art galleries, Dr. Mark Sublette gives important tips of the trade before you ever open your own art gallery. Website: https://www.medicinemangallery.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/medicinemangallery Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/medicinemangallery How to Start an Art Gallery So, you want to be an art dealer. Well, how do you go about doing it? That's a good question, and one that I had to search about in my own life because I came from a different profession. I was a physician, and decided I really loved art; I was a collector, and I wanted to become an art dealer. I didn't know anything about art dealing. So, where do you go? There's not really a university course that (from which) you can become an art dealer. Now, you can take fine art courses, which are very helpful and getting a degree is very helpful, but that still doesn't tell you about how to actually become an art dealer. So, I'll just give you a few pearls that may help your quest, if you so desire to become an art dealer. One of the things that you need to do is you have to be passionate about something. If you're just going in for it the money because you think you can make a lot of money, I highly recommend you go to Wall Street. This is not the field for that. If you don't have the passion and the desire to be immersed in art or antiques, then really you should look at a different profession. You can just click this off right now. But, if you do meet those criteria then this is what I have to say to you: first, is really know your material, and that's not only know it from an academic standpoint but you actually have to understand the price structure. Remember, art is an imperfect market, so that means that it's in the eye of the beholder. So, I would recommend that you pick a small area. If you're going to deal in deceased work – pick a small niche area and really learn it to the very best capability, and become a specialist. Anybody who becomes a specialist in any field is much more sought out, much more desirable, and you can become the leader in that market. And being a market leader is never a bad thing. Don't expect overnight results; it took me at least ten years to get to where people would believe me, and understand that I'm not going out of business next week. If you're going to deal with living artists, there's also the catch-22 of: living artists don't want to go with you unless you've been in business long enough to show that you can make it. And the problem is that no good artists want to come with you until you're already gone along the road, so it may take awhile to get that one or two artists to start your core portion of your art gallery. That's very important – you have to get one really good artist to go to your gallery. Once you do, then they kind of fall like dominoes; you’ll get more artists and then it's really not a problem. So, remember there are a couple things that you have to understand (about) what you're going to do if you're going to be an art dealer. One, you have to have passion. You really need to know one part of that material very well, whatever it may be. (Two) become a niche player – it will help you greatly. And three, have the best ethics you can. If you start off with bad ethics – if you get a bad name in the field right off the bat – people talk, customers talk, dealers talk, and you'll be out of the business before you even get started.

Nail art is a creative way to paint, decorate, enhance, and embellish the nails. It is a type of artwork that can be done on fingernails and toenails, usually after manicures or pedicures. A manicure and a pedicure are beauty treatments that trim, shape, and polish the nail. Often these procedures remove the cuticles and soften the skin around the nails. subscribe my channel for inspirational videos_ https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCOITOWHwWukGT2DRafzpTPQ

How to Start a Business

We’re often encouraged to think that the secret to starting is a business is to have a bold and entirely original idea. But the suggestion here is that all we really need is to LOVE something a little more than most other people do: that will be enough to help us stand out from the competition. For gifts and more from The School of Life, visit our online shop: https://goo.gl/2iDV2t Join our mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Or visit us in person at our London HQ: https://goo.gl/Hm2Pyr Download our App: https://goo.gl/wKSmH5 FURTHER READING “Many of us want to start our own businesses. Public space is filled with reports of new ventures. But the reporting on entrepreneurship is heavily skewed in one particular direction: towards people who have started new kinds of businesses, pioneers who have pushed the boundaries of commerce by creating a wholly original offering, usually through the help of an innovative piece of technology...” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/P73YWU MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/UEN1vw Watch more films on WORK and CAPITALISM in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLcapitalism You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://goo.gl/wKSmH5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Alan Jennings http://alanjennings.net/ #TheSchoolOfLife

Think tattoo design! Make it a digital file: Preferably a vector file but a pdf will do. Some factories can create the artwork for you.  You can use SUMO for an online tool: https://www.sumopaint.com/home/ Think about packaging: Make it look great! Here is a cool pin maker with great packaging: https://www.instagram.com/suspectltd/ PIN PRODUCTION You need: - Quantity: Minimum 100. + quantity = - $$ - Size: 1-2 inch. + size = + $$ - Material: Hard enamel, soft enamel, etc…This is an explanation of both: https://www.metropins.com/hard-vs-soft-enamel.html this is a hard enamel pin: http://pinlord.bigcartel.com/product/skate-slice-collaboration-pin-with-screamerspizza this is a soft enamel pin: http://pinlord.bigcartel.com/product/sweaty-palm-collaboration-pin-with-tulahouse - Pin-back: Single vs double. Double is better Pro tip: Start with small quantities and  re-order if needed Once you have that information, you can: Find factory options and compare: Ask for a quote based on your quantity, size, material and pin-back as well as delivery time. Quick Google search for enamel pin producers: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=enamel%20pin%20producers Quick Ali Baba search for enamel pin producers: https://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=enamel+pin+producer producing in China is MUCH cheaper and still great quality. Costs are usually around $1.5-2 per pin for a minimum order of 100 pins Approve quote and artwork: Make sure the factory artwork looks like what you want.  Pro Tip: Always ask for photo before shipping.  SELL YOUR PINS Start your website: PayPal + e-commerce option like BigCartel, SquareSpace, etc… Take good product shots: Great photos = sales! iPhone 6 + VSCO CAM DIY option: https://vsco.co/store/app Find your shipping method: Check options online. USPS, Shyp, Ship Station, etc Pro Tip: Always ship internationally  MARKET YOUR PINS Start your Instagram: Easy and low cost way of getting your pins in front of people. Search  #pingame to see what’s out there! How to start a craft business from home

Is it possible to make a solid income through a craft business at home? Mandy here did it and she'll tell you how to get started yourself. http://amandasdesignerdecals.com | http://FreeHandmadeTraining.com And here are some mind blowing facts about how home businesses were started.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_business The concept of home-based business, as opposed to the previous terminology of "cottage industry", first appeared in 1978. The phrase was coined by Marion Behr, the originator of a study to find out what businesses women throughout America were carrying on in their homes. The preview edition of Enterprising Women wrote about the search to gather information pertaining to home workers throughout the nation. Numerous magazines and organizations helped to disseminate information regarding the study. Ultimately 40,000 letters were received, many indicating the problems the respondents experienced while carrying on businesses from their homes. The problems were analyzed and confronted in two ways. In 1980 the National Alliance of Homebased Businesswomen was founded to combat the isolation expressed by the respondents as well as to fight the laws which made conducting their businesses difficult. Then Women Working Home: The Homebased Guide and Directory by Marion Behr and Wendy Lazar was published. It contained the stories of many women who ran home-based businesses throughout the country in many diverse fields, as well as information on business formation, conduct and compliance with the law. It sold 50,000 copies. During this time many national magazines wrote about these issues. At the White House Conference on Small Business in 1986, one of the major resolutions was a recommendation favoring lifting restrictions on home-based business.

The "SugarplumDolls.com Sew Simple Pattern Project" I am now ready to take a leap forward and launch my own line of super easy sewing patterns. My plan is to create super easy sewing patterns, I hope to have my first pattern available for sale online before Christmas 2012 in my etsy shop. http://www.etsy.com/shop/clothespindolls I need to raise money to help offset the cost of having my pattern digitized, graded, and printed ! Other ways you can help! I understand that not everyone has the same kind of money. Right now what money I have goes to all activities of daily living and some left over for crafting. EVERYONE can help though. One thing I do know is that publicity is worth way more than people think If you can tell people about this project, you will help me to make a make a difference! Share this on Facebook, Tweet it, tell or just tell your friends who you know who like interesting causes and project. It all helps! And the more often people talk about this project the more likely I will reach my goals and their will be a lot of well dressed children running around in beautiful clothes made with love! 1.
