Ideas and Strategies for Trading Market Opens 💡
Ideas and strategies for trading the opening stages of an exchange. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/course/technical-analysis.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! We are talking about the opening in trading - that is going to be indices, stocks - it is not going to be currencies so much because those trade round-the-clock. The open for me is the first hour of the day - why do I want to trade the opening of the day? The opening if you get it right is perhaps one of the most profitable times to trade for day traders. There's often a supply-demand imbalance, there is a lot of pressure going on one side and not as much on the other side. Volume may be aggressive in one direction and it could switch quite quickly. One thing you have to be careful - I have struggled trading the opening drive in my initial years and I lost money when I started out. Have a premise on what you're looking for. You can say look for fake-outs or 5 or 10 minute breakouts - the important is to have a strategy in place - essentially what you intend to do should an opportunity come up.

What is the difference between a limit and market order?
What is the difference between a limit and market order? ★ SUMMARY ★ Market order Think of a market order as paying the market price when buying or really selling a stock, meaning you would pay whatever price is necessary to get your shares. Limit order When it comes to a limit order, you get to specify the price you want to pay for the stock. You get favorable pricing, but you may not get filled with your order if your price is not met. When should you use market order or limit order? When do you use one of the other? Well, market order is great if you need to get into a stock right away, really fast, typically day trading, and you’re trading liquid stocks. Ep: 77 Trading During Pre-Market & After Hours Sessions
Ep: 77 Trading During Pre-Market & After Hours Sessions ★ SUMMARY ★ in this week’s episode, what I’d like to do is share with you some insight about trading during pre-market and after-market hours. I’m going to give you some insight about pre-market, after-market, trading in them, what is it that I do, what I don’t’ do, and that way you just get some insight if you want to trade pre-market or post-market. In order to do this and show you some examples of what pre-market and post-market is, I’m going to be using the think or swim platform, with TD Ameritrade. It’s just an easy platform to teach with, because I can make things larger and bigger, normally I do prefer the TC2000 for scanning stocks right here, or you can take a look at it at freestockcharts.com But in general this platform, unless you have the platinum version, I believe, it doesn’t really allow you to see the pre-market and after-market hours, at least not very well. I’m just going to use the think or swim to demonstrate this, because you can see here in the grey areas of the charting area that you can see that pre-market and after market, so first it’s after-market, and then the day will split, and then it’s pre-market that’s being shown. It just depends on which stock you type in, whether that’s a Netflix, you can see all those little grey areas those are not regular trading time frames . And if you go into the five minute, you can really start seeing those pre-market and after-market hours. What is pre-market and after-market First off, what is pre-market, after-market and give you the big picture of do I really trade during those time frames and is it worth it. Long story short, pre-market and after-market hours are just not regular trading time frames, they are something after the 4 o’ clock bell, and something before the 9:30 opening bell. You can trade pre-market quite early, I believe anywhere between the 4 am, which is the really early pre-market, but at 6 am, 8:30 am, is really when things start picking up, and you slowly can see that with the clock over here at the bottom. A trending market looks like this but the market is moving in one direction arrange panel Cyprus market looks like this were the market is moving up and down within a specific range indicators tend to be either suited trending or range assignment markets. Indicator one RSI. The relative strength index compares the magnitude of recent gains to recent losses in the attempt to determine overbought and oversold conditions of instrument as you can see from the chart the RSI ranges from 0 to 100. Insurance is deemed to be overbought once the RSI approaches the 70 level mean that it maybe getting overvalued and is a good candidate for pullback likewise if the RSI approaches 30, then the instrument is oversold and therefore like to reverse. Traders will often use the RSI coming back out of overbought or oversold conditions as a signal to enter the market. A trade using RSI should be whether large rallies and drops in price will affect the RSI by potentially creating false buy or sell signals traders often come by the RSI such as the MACD. Indicator two MACD. Indicator three Bollinger bands. A Bollinger band starts off as a simple moving average and has two standard deviations plotted away from it that sounds a mouthful but the important part is because standard deviation is a measure of volatility Bollinger bands adjust themselves to current market conditions. When markets become more volatile markets widen and move further away. Enjoying less volatile periods the band’s contract moving closer together. I am also a book author: Modern Value Investing book: https://amzn.to/2lvfH3t More about me and some written reports at the Sven Carlin blog: https://svencarlin.com Stock market for modern value investors Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/modernvalueinvesting/ You might call yourself a long term investor but sometimes stock market trading is a smart thing to do, sell on negative news and buy on good news. I discuss a few situations where academic research shows how stock prices take their time to react to material news while sometimes, if the news is long term stock prices don't react at all. I use the example of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Lunding Mining (TSX: LUN) to show how stocks react to news. I also discuss what is shown by academic research about stock prices and their reaction to earnings. An individual investor should trade when there is a high likelihood that the stock price will drift due to negative news. Being a bag holder for others is not necessary if it can be avoided. Some use technical analysis but I prefer common sense.

🔴 Stock market shows potential support | The Closing Beat 🎶
Every day when the stock market closes we update our clients and subscribers about the important or interesting things that moved the stock market and your retirement investments. We leave the opinion out...mostly. Our goal is to educate briefly on what moved the stock markets, what may be coming up, and how your investments, or retirement portfolio may have been impacted by the day's news. Here's a look at what investors were focused on today: The markets sold off again today thanks in part to continued weakness in the banking sector. The Dow 30 closed lower on the day by 205, the S&P 500 sold off 20, and the Nasdaq 100 closed down on the day by 64. Though the markets were lower on the day, technical traders were hopeful that the close off lows today will indicate a new support area. Sector News Crude oil broke it's losing streak today as investors took their chances on the recent sell off finding a bottom. The price of oil fell for 12 days straight for the first time in history. Another bearish stat on oil is that the decline over the last 30 days is the fastest that it has ever moved from a 52 week high to a 52 week low. Gold saw a 1% gain on the day as investors looked to the precious metal for a safety trade. With the debate on inflation starting to make headlines, the recent trading volume shows that investors want a little hedge in their portfolios. Bank stocks were the weakest area of the markets today as comments from Democrat Maxine Watters said the easing of regulations on banks will be coming to an end when she takes her seat as the chair of the House Financial Services Committee. The large names continue to get sold off. Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) was a focus as it has hit new 52 week lows for the last 3 days in a row. A further look back shows losses totaling more than 20% for the year. Stock News Shares of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) continue to head lower today as the stock was downgraded by Guggenheim to neutral from buy and removed their $245 price target in the process. Concerns about iPhone sales decreasing by about 5% in 2019 along with higher average prices leading to a “period of digestion” for consumers was given as the primary reasons. Technical traders will note the break of the 200 day moving average as a driving force behind the recent selloff. Macy’s (NYSE: M) shares sold off today despite reporting a decent earnings report. The retailer easily beat earnings expectations and even reported same store sales growth for the fourth straight quarter. The stock remains just above the 200 day moving average but has seen some weakness with the market selloff this week. Snap, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNAP) shares were lower on the day as the company has officially been subpoenaed by the DOJ and SEC for documents related to their IPO last year. This comes as a shareholder lawsuit is alleging that SNAP misled investors about how Facebook’s (NYSE: FB) Instagram platform was affecting the performance of the company. What is short selling? Join our Fall Trading Contest and win $500 when you practice trading: https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/register?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=VideoLink&utm_campaign=FallContest Most people think of investing as buying a stock (or other asset) and making money when its price goes up - but it’s also possible to make a profit when a stock price goes down. This process is called short selling (or shorting). Short selling isn’t all peaches and cream. There are opportunities for high returns, but as usual, these come with high risks. The big risk here is that there is no limit to your losses. When you buy a stock, you can only lose the amount that you invested. But when you short, your losses are infinite because there is theoretically no end to how high a stock’s price can rise. Short selling isn’t for everyone. It requires a lot of time and research, and a desire for high risks and high returns. Short selling is primarily used for speculator looking to make a profit when the market goes down or investing looking to hedge their position. Stock Trading: How to Scan the Stock Market for Your Trading Setups (Quickly and Efficiently)
00:00 In today's episode, I have a question from Umang, who asked, "Hey Rayner, how do I scan the stock markets for my trading setup? Because there are so many stocks out there. Hundreds, if not thousands of stocks." 00:17 So my response to this is that there's a four-step procedure that you can follow, number one: finding a trading setup or a pattern is just like finding a wife. 00:37 if you are looking for a wife who is a brunette, Asian, Chinese, Indian, or whatsoever, you have to know what you're looking for in the first place, and it's the same for trading the markets. 00:54 Are you looking for a trending stock? a breakout stock, or maybe a stock that's tanked over the last twelve months and you're going to buy near the bottom whatsoever. 01:10 Once you've defined your trading setup then you can go into step two: Determine the market cap of the stocks you want to trade. For example, for those of you who are in the U.S., you have Russell 3000. Russell 3000 comprises of the large-cap, mid-cap, and the small-cap stocks. So, if you can define what market capitalization of stocks you want to trade, you can filter it down further. But if you're let's say, in Singapore, there's the large-cap, mid-cap, you have a few thereabout. You don't really need to do this classification, it's only for those of you who are in countries where you have thousands and thousands of stocks. 01:48 So once you have classified the market cap at step two, proceed to step three: Scan the markets. Let's say you want to scan stocks that are trending, what you want to do is to put up the twenty, fifty and two hundred period moving average, so if the stock is above the three moving averages, chances are it's a trending stock. You can also go through your entire watchlist and scan all the stocks which are above these moving averages. Alternatively, if you want to trade breakout stocks, you can just look for stocks that are on a 52-week high, breaking out of their 200-day high, etc. Another example I can give you is that if you want to buy stocks that are doing very bad over the last 12 months and you want to catch bottoms, what you can do is to scan stocks at their 52-week low, 200-day low, and etc. 02:44 Once you've scanned the markets, what you want to do is do number four: Put it all in a spreadsheet. Let's say you have 500 stocks to scan, you can do it all on the weekend. You want to put down those stocks in a spreadsheet that are close to having their setup occur so that when the market opens next week, you will only focus on those stocks in your spreadsheet that are about to have their setup occur. So, what you want to do is to find the gems among your 500 stocks and put it into a spreadsheet, and focus on it this coming week. 03:40 Now that you can scan the stock market and find the trading setups that you want, some of you might be wondering if there is any software to do this work for you? The only one that I do know of is Finviz, F-I-N-V-I-Z, and that is only for the U.S. stock market. They have this kind of quick scanner on whether you want to use fundamentals or technicals. As for local Singaporean stocks, Philippine stocks, Indian stocks, I do not know of such tools that are in the market right now. But for the U.S. there is Finviz. If there are no scanners you can just go through the four steps I shared with you. Number one, define your trading setup. Number two, know the market cap that you want to trade. Number three, scan the markets. And number four, put those stocks that you have scanned into a spreadsheet so you can track them when the market opens this coming week. 04:35 So that's all I have for you in this week's episode of Ask Rayner. If you're looking for proven trading strategies that work, you can go down to my website tradingwithrayner.com and access my materials for free.
