This local association may, as a whole, associate with another association of their kind on the national level. This national level association may again go into association with other national level association, and this creates an international athletic association. Local and national sports associations are usually supported by their respective local or national government, while international associations are supported either by funds from member associations, private donations, or revenues from sports events. They still appear in less than 1 percent of the population. - There is a long narrow muscle running from the elbow to the wrist. It is already missing in 11 percent of humans today, so it is a safe bet that with time it will disappear completely. - Nipples are present in both males and females. Men generally lack the necessary levels of prolactin to stimulate lactation and typically cannot produce milk. - Goosebumps are the indicator of them at work. We get them when we are frightened, amazed or cold. Apparently, we have lost most of the fur and acquired warm clothes. We don’t need any additional protection from freezing temperatures or the source to intimidate our rivals anymore. - Some research shows that an appendix can be, in fact, useful! It might store special bacteria good for those who suffer from diarrhea. - Our closest cousins, chimpanzees, and gorillas have an extra set of ribs. What about humans? Most of us have 12, except for 8% of adults - they have an extra one! - It's all that is left of the tail that most mammals still use for balance and communication. What is more, there have been 100 documented cases of babies who were born with a tail. What is the purpose of a tail-bone? There is none. - A third eyelid, you will ask, do we have it? Yes, we, humans, retain a tiny fold in the inner corner of the eye. It is what is left from a membrane birds, and mammals have had for protecting the eye and sweeping out debris, at the same time providing visibility. - Darwin's point is a small folded point of skin toward the top of each ear that is occasionally found in modern humans. It may be a remnant of a larger shape that helped to focus distant sounds. Nowadays only 10% of people have this “greeting from the past.” - Subclavius muscle is a small muscle which stretches under the shoulder from the first rib to the collarbone. It would be beneficial if humans were still walking on all fours. - Scientists have found out that humans used to walk and balance more in the middle of their feet, but now we have gradually transferred to balancing more toward the side of our big toe. We all know of the value of strength training for Sports and that using exercises to enhance speed and power is crucial if you want to achieve your potential. However in this video I pose the question are these exercises, Hang Cleans, Power Cleans, Clean & Jerk, Snatch really all that relevant to most sports and is there better choices of exercises to achieve the goal of added explosive power and strength? My biggest concerns with these lifts are they are performed from a 2 leg standing position, where in almost every sport you are always jumping from 1 leg not 2. And you are often using 1 arm not 2. The argument most sports coaches would use for this, is the load is greater with 2 legs and promotes more strength gains than single leg movements. The single leg movements compromise the strength or load you can lift as it is so unstable and complex. But this is my whole point. You need to train this lack of stability, with this specific pattern of movement. Strength does not override stability deficits. This is why you will often see someone great at a squat and lift huge loads but struggle with a lunge, or even a deadlift. The same muscles are used for both exercises, glutes, quads, hamstrings etc but the pattern of movement is so different. The brain needs to coordinate these patterns in specific sequences in order to make efficient, strong and powerful movement. Squats and deadlifts by the way are great exercises but they are not multi directional as what lunges can be and therefor not as useful for sports as the skills needed are found in the multidirectional movement. Now this is not to say you can't use squats, deadlifts and olympic lifting. They are all great exercises and will complement any strength training program for sports. My argument is we need to spend much more time developing skills and power with single leg, lateral and rotational movements as these movements are really the major focus of all sporting codes. It is also in these movements you see injuries occur such as ACL ruptures or tears. Only learning how to stabilize landings, coordinate pivots, twisting and cutting can you prevent these type of injuries. Technique is often completely abandoned in order to get a sweat! You see this all too often in Crossfit and the amount of serious back injuries caused as a result of this is incredible. Olympic lifting must be respected and treated as an exercise that is ideally suited to 1-3 reps with long breaks between sets. Using exercises like burpees and jumping jacks between sets just fatigues the body, compromises the lift anyway and just sets you up for more injury. It is time we became smarter with our choice of exercises and methods and this video we give you some great ideas. Very, very rarely to muscles work in complete isolation or anywhere close to it. When we move some muscles contract, others stretch and elongate to while some muscles provide stability, and all of this is done within a split second without you having to think about it. This is what is known as a pattern of movement and these patterns are like groups of movements linked together in a big chunk of information. The chunk of information is known as a motor program (like software on a computer). These motor programs link many movements together all at once to complete a specific task. When you train against this principle by using isolated exercises that do not require this "chunking" you are basically making the system slower, inefficient and dumb! The brain does not understand or recognize how to use any of this information for movement. This would not be good for sports don't you agree? An example would be the bench press where your body is disconnected from the legs and any need for stability to produce huge amounts of force in a pushing action. By training the weakest part of the pushing movement, (the arms) without the need to stabilize and derive power from the legs first you create a virus in the computer of how it should generate the power. Instead of using the legs it is now learning a new way, a corrupted methods, which will never be as strong or as powerful as the optimal method.
