It has been identified as a subset of the marketing mix. It is believed that there is an optimal way of allocating budgets for the different elements within the promotional mix to achieve best marketing results, and the challenge for marketers is to find the right mix of them. Activities identified as elements of the promotional mix vary, but typically include the following: Advertising is the paid presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, or services by an identified sponsor in a mass medium. Examples include print ads, radio, television, billboard, direct mail, brochures and catalogs, signs, in-store displays, posters, mobile apps, motion pictures, web pages, banner ads, emails. Personal selling is the process of helping and persuading one or more prospects to purchase a good or service or to act on any idea through the use of an oral presentation, often in a face-to-face manner or by telephone. Examples include sales presentations, sales meetings, sales training and incentive programs for intermediary salespeople, samples, and telemarketing. Sales Promotion is media and non-media marketing communication used for a pre-determined limited time to increase consumer demand, stimulate market demand or improve product availability. Examples include coupons, sweepstakes, contests, product samples, rebates, tie-ins, self-liquidating premiums, trade shows, trade-ins, and exhibitions. Public relations or publicity is information about a firm's products and services carried by a third party in an indirect way. This includes free publicity as well as paid efforts to stimulate discussion and interest. It can be accomplished by planting a significant news story indirectly in the media, or presenting it favorably through press releases or corporate anniversary parties. Examples include newspaper and magazine articles, TVs and radio presentations, charitable contributions, speeches, issue advertising, seminars. Direct Marketing is a channel-agnostic form of advertising that allows businesses and nonprofits to communicate directly to the customer, with methods such as mobile messaging, email, interactive consumer websites, online display ads, fliers, catalog distribution, promotional letters, and outdoor advertising. Corporate image campaigns have been considered as part of the promotional mix. Sponsorship of an event or contest or race is a way to generate further positive publicity. Guerrilla marketing tactics are unconventional ways to bring attention to an idea or product or service, such as by using graffiti, sticker bombing, posting flyers, using flash mobs, doing viral marketing campaigns, or other methods using the Internet in unexpected ways. Product placement is paying a movie studio or television show to include a product or service prominently in the show.

The analysis on how much money we're spending to generate the traffic and here's what's crazy, most people don't realize this, we generate, let's say a million visitors a month on Neil Patel. Do you know what the cost to get there is with video, production, podcasting, blogging, promotion, ads, link building? $110,000 a month. That's what it averaged out to for 2017. Here are my marketing strategies for 2018. I just bought a blog in the marketing space for a half a million bucks. They get a million visitors a month, and it's cheaper to spend money acquiring people who already have the traffic. So in 2017, I bought Uber Suggest, I think it was around 140 grand. They had very little traffic. I 381 redirected the site, traffic increased and guess what happened? Nothing. I hoped that my traffic would go through the roof, but nothing happened. Uber Suggest was a good acquisition and what I ended up learning from that is, who cares about links? Don't buy anything for the links. Buy it purely based off of traffic and just pay a simple metric. If Uber Suggest has roughly 200,000 visitors per month, I paid a hundred and something; I would have paid 200 grand, the money didn't matter. For a blog that I just spent half a million on, their traffic ranges. On a horrible month, they'll get around 800,000 uniques. In a perfect month, they'll get around, like, 1.2, 1.3 million uniques, and all I'm doing right now is buying as many blogs as possible. My marketing strategy for 2018 is to buy blogs based on of traffic. I look at the top posts that they have and how qualified their visitors are and determine if I can successfully monetize their content. I don't even care if they have revenue. If they don't have revenue, even better. The problem with Search Engine Journal is that they have conferences, they have advertising, and they have contracts for all of it. I don't care for any of that. I just want the traffic. So when you buy all these people for traffic and then you put it into your monetization flow, you can quickly figure out, what is this worth? If I can't make my money back in less than 12 months, I will not buy it. The other marketing strategy that I use when I'm buying these sites is to look for blogs that aren't monetized well. The blog that I ended up buying for half a million bucks, they're not even making three grand a month. If you're not even making three grand a month, that's a good deal, right? They're like; you're going to give me half a million dollars for this? No problem. Another creative marketing strategy I'm doing right now, is trying to buy a really popular marketing tool. I don't want to pay them all the money they're asking for because they want well into the millions, and it isn't worth it. But, I'm trying to work out a deal where I give them X amount of money up front, let's say a million dollars, and then give them a hundred thousand a month over X amount of months or a hundred thousand a year over X amount of years. When I see inefficiencies in sites, I figure I can purchase them and double the revenue because they aren't optimized for traffic or conversions. So buy it for what it's worth, optimize it, and then use the profits to pay them out continually. That way you're not using all of your money and the business is paying, you may have spent a bit more money, but personally, you don't have to spend as much money, and that's my marketing strategy for 2018. My goal is to spend at least $5 million acquiring businesses purely based on their traffic. It's hard to imagine promotional gifts not being included as part of the marketing mix; they are after all the ideal way of amplifying the brand message which you are trying to get across. Advertisers put their faith in this medium and revenues climb steadily. But what is actually a good promotional item? If you are asking yourself this question, you may first of all be struggling with the term itself. Descriptions such as "hapticals" are after all more fitting – promotional items as haptical brand ambassadors. They allow the company logo to be positioned on giveaways, merchandise articles and also on the company's own clothing, corporate fashion. In recent years, promotional items have traditionally been given out as presents, above all at Christmas and Easter. These occasions are increasingly losing significance, however, in favour of trade fairs, company events and customer visits. Advertisers can even choose the occasion for themselves as a way of expressing their appreciation to their business partners and customers. With its versatility and its effectiveness in terms of advertising impact, the promotional article is an element of the marketing mix that simply cannot be dispensed with. This can be seen in the impressive sales volumes of EUR 3.5 billion in the year 2017 alone, with the trend still rising. Almost every large company makes use of this means of advertising. This is firstly because of the greater level of trust that people have in haptic advertising as opposed to digital advertising where the reach is often difficult to comprehend or may even be faked. Furthermore, there is a trend in the industry towards cheaper articles, produced in larger numbers, however, leading to an increase in overall turnover. To be most effective, promotional articles should in the ideal case not be used in a stand-alone scenario but rather integrated in terms of strategy and concept into an overall advertising campaign. They can be used to enhance the advertising impact of every other medium used in transporting the brand message to the recipient. In particular in times of fast-moving, digital media, they are literally a medium that stays with the customer and secures positive attention for the brand value. For this reason, they are even more popular than online and print advertising with those making decisions on budgets. According to various different studies, brand recall increases by 78% on contact with a promotional item in comparison to only 30% achieved in each case through radio and magazines. At the same time, studies have shown that people find promotional items the least annoying, and yet they can't be simply clicked away either. According to consumer psychologists, gifts are a form of "supercommunication" – in psychological terms, they are seen as being of superior value. Promotional gifts are the only type of advertising that the customer actually thanks you for. A crucial point in making a selection is to ensure that the promotional material is well-suited to the company and to the target group. This is an area where suppliers and traders can let their creativity run free, of course taking into account current trends in retailing and the general Zeitgeist. Something already mentioned is the trend towards lower-priced articles on account of tightened-up compliance regulations which stipulate what items an employee is allowed to accept. The clever marketing representative will understand how to choose a witty article that will get a lot of attention rather than opting for something more expensive. One of our suppliers gave us a simple and concise answer to the question as to what makes a good promotional item – it has a use. Only a promotional item which has a practical function will have a long life and be used in a sustained fashion, making it effective in spreading its message. The more value a promotional gift is perceived to have and the more useful it is, the more positively the company will be rated and the more often the advertising message will be seen. By doing that and shooting out emails to other people or linking to your competitors and it's just a casual email. You noticed, in that email, I didn't say, "Hey, you should link out to me. "You should promote me." No, I'm not that direct. I'm just starting a conversation, making it super casual and by doing that, more people are likely to start including my blog posts on their website and link to me. I'm getting all that data from ahrefs.com because it shows me every single site that's linking to my competitor. So, Buzzsumo shows you the most popular articles or the least popular articles that your competitors have. If you put in their blog URL and it'll show you all of their most popular posts sorted by social shares. Once you have that, what you want to do with Buzzsumo is take their most popular posts and write better versions of them. So, use Brian Dean's Skyscraper Technique. So if they wrote a post on 20 amazing ways to do yoga poses, I would write an article on 101 advanced techniques to do yoga poses, right? As you can tell, based on the title, I don't know much about yoga. But you get the point. I'm just one-upping them and doing something that's way more detailed. And then, in Buzzsumo, it shows you who shared your competitors content when you click on the View Shares link. Then I would hit up every single one of those people and then ask them to share my content as well. Last but not least, no one's perfect. Everyone has a complaint. If you say you don't have any complaints, I call BS. I complain about stuff all the time, and I bet you people are complaining about your competitors every single day. So go on the social web, find out who's complaining, help them out and tell them about your blog. You're going to turn their haters into your evangelists. Do those five sneaky things and you will get more traffic to your blog without spending any money on paid ads.

If you're Malcolm Gladwell you can probably foot the bill for that because you get a couple of talks for fifty to eighty five thousand dollars plus proceeds from the book deal it's probably okay right but most of us aren't Malcolm Gladwell so we're going to have to find ways that don't cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars to get distribution and of course readers for our fabulous work of book. NUMBER ONE: ONLINE PRESENCE: For me been writing a newsletter for seven years I had built up a fantastic base of wonderful folks who not only bought my book but told other people when my book came out so that was critical but if you are writing your book already and you haven't spent seven years writing good newsletter there's no time like right now yeah right now you might even want to turn off this video and get to work on it to build an online presence and ideally get newsletter subscribers and social media followers and friends. NUMBER TWO: FRIENDS: This was the second kind of my secret weapon that that I got with my fabulous readers who thank you thank you I'm still so grateful for you buying books when it came out and now still and for your Amazon reviews but my secret weapon that got me to number one I think we broke top ten without friends but we never would have got to number one if it weren't for the fabulous support of some of our friends Nick and Tom crowds of rock star real estate in particular sent some really great promotions out to their fantastic folks and that really gave us the boost we needed to get to number one. So start networking folks because it's hard to do it all alone friends referring and recommending you and your book is going to be a huge help to you. NUMBER THREE: SPEAKING: I'm sorry if you really thought you could just sit behind your computer and tick away and sell books but speaking is really really a solid way to sell books if you have a short talk you can find business networking groups meetup groups NUMBER FOUR: PUBLIC RELATIONS: I think that while TV looks the coolest and people think it's the coolest I actually think that the newspaper articles and the radio spots I've done have generated the most results and I try to track it but you can't really tell right you don't really know where your book sales are coming from but people who come out to my book events who've heard of me for the first time are coming from newspaper or radio they're not coming from the TV shows. NUMBER FIVE: PROMOTION: Now, this is what we did in the launch to really boost it right and back this this and this all combined together are what gave us a really really strong start out of the gate but even now if I have a store that has a lot of leftover stock then I might run a city specific promotion to help sell books so that can be you know one on one coaching calls it can be some of your friends who blog may have e-books or other courses or services that they'll offer to buyers of your book so when they send you a receipt proving they bought your book you can then send them or sign them up for these other services sound good right it helps to sell books. THE THING THAT DOESN’t WORK: BOOKSTORE SIGNINGS Kind of .... yeah really listen a lot of my friends are like oh I've seen all your book signings it looks so cool and some of them have been pretty good but the reality is that getting people to come out to a bookstore to buy a book these days it's actually really hard

I love the positive encouragement and the likeable social media you have created with sharing etc. I read and follow as much as I can. What I can't find and maybe you can help direct me to the right place is somewhere that I can find information that isn't as broad. I see many things about entrepreneurs, how to etc but it dosen't quite fit the mold of what I do. So many articles I have found talk about business will fail. Just toss it, rack it up as a learned experience and try again. Or help like find who your customers are. I know who they are by age, income, and all the other items that my insights and google tracking + my sales have told me, but I have a different case which I don't seem to be able to apply some of the methods. If my business fails, then I won't be starting a new one. I am a fine artist. What I sell is my artwork, gifts and merchandise based on my artwork, and eventually video tutorials on painting techniques etc. Only 2% to 5% of the population buys original art. My gifts and merchandise are aimed at home decor, office decor, jewelry and apparel to broaden the market of who will buy my products. Getting loans to open a store are not such a good idea as it takes time to build art clients. That's almost a guaranteed sink. If my business fails, starting a new one won't work. It's not like I'm creating a software app that may or may not hit, then in the next 6 months I'm trying opening a computer hardware repair business. It's not about choosing the right product, I am the product. Getting it right is detrimental to my business. There are quite a few artists who have landed the right path to financial success just like any other entrepreneur. It's a business. I create products, I look for licensing of my images, I create smaller items to purchase for those who don't fall into the 2 - 5 % category. I have to market, network, and promote just like any other business would. Add to that trying to build prestige, creating enough pieces for collections to show at galleries, attending festivals, and making public appearances. So why is it so hard to find information on how to for what I am doing? Information on where to look for Independent Sales Reps would be great. Or where / how to market for niche products? Even though I am more than dedicated and believe in my product / artwork 100%, I find that I am struggling to connect the dots. Most art business help books don't really seem to be geared to creating a large enterprise based on artist products. Instead they try to coddle and persuade artists to become organized as if we were addlepated helpless drooling idiots who can't manage to have a cohesive though. The business advise geared toward us is to take 2 and 3 jobs on top of the full time job we already have creating, promoting, selling, showing, and marketing what we create. I see artists like Tripp Harrison who's Florida gallery takes in over 2 million every year, or Guy Harvey who's products created from his artwork is in every gift shop along the cost in the US as well through the islands and cruise lines. These guys are raking it in. How do I reach that level of entrepreneurship where I am no longer a one person owned small business but instead have multiple employees, sell my products across the globe, and create the business that I see when I create my goals? The standard protocol dosen't seem to apply. Are there resources out there that you know of that you wouldn't mind pointing me in the direction to so that I can help myself progress?
