You exchange information. You need to have the right responses to the employer’s questions. You need to ask good questions. You need the right background. You need to impress. 1. It’s about their future, not your past. You need to get the interviewers, the most senior interviewers, thinking into the future. If you can't get them to imagine what their life will be like and what their company will look like with you there, you'll never get hired. 2. Leaders are inclusive and inspiring. You need to be the high tide that lifts all the boats. Leaders build more leaders. They don't build more followers. You need to show them you're great at inspiring and inclusive. You're great at building teams. 3. Stay away from one-and-done questions because then you’ll be done. Specifically, I mean asking a great question, then receiving their response, and then moving on to the next question. That's the big mistake! The message you're sending to them is that you are a puddle skipper. You are not somebody who's digging deep to get information and collecting it all. You're not well researched. You’re not digging deep enough to get the information you need to make a good decision. -------------------- ABOUT ANDREW -------------------- Andrew LaCivita is an internationally recognized executive recruiter, award-winning author, trainer, and founder and chief executive officer of milewalk and the milewalk Academy. Stop Managing, Start Leading | Hamza Khan | TEDxRyersonU

18:13
According to Hamza, managing millennials and knowledge workers the way we used to manage traditional factory workers can be disastrous. Speaking through his own experience of being managed and alternatively as a manager, Hamza makes the case that millennials must be lead, instead of managed and given autonomy to complete their tasks, so that they may grow and reach their full potential. If you ask Hamza Khan about his role as a manager, he’ll tell you his approach to managing is to avoid it altogether. Before his success as an award-winning digital marketer and entrepreneur, Hamza was a student struggling to find a practical outlet for his creativity while pursuing a degree in business and political science at the University of Toronto Scarborough. In his third-year of university, Hamza switched his major and received a Bachelor of Arts to facilitate a future career in creative multimedia and storytelling. Since graduating, he has worked as a graphic designer and marketer, and teaches social media strategy at Seneca College. He is also credited with making Ryerson University Canada’s leading university in online student engagement. Product Manager - 10 Essential Skills to Master (In 2019)

06:51
Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. All of us want to be outstanding in front of our boss. 1. Walk the talk: It means do what you say and say what you mean. If you make a commitment at your work place, make sure you deliver the same. However busy you may be, take the extra effort to live up to your commitment. 2. Be pro-active: As a boss, you wouldn’t like an employee who has to be told what to do, someone who doesn’t think for himself. Be an employee who comes up with excellent ideas, executes them and shows results. Be willing to take responsibilities and stretch your abilities beyond your role. A pro-active person is also someone who is self motivated. 3. Choose request over complaint: Work places can be very challenging for you to keep your calm, to keep your cool and work harmoniously with everyone. You may encounter certain interpersonal issues with some colleagues and you want to speak about it to your boss. How you put it forward matters. Do not complaint as it doesn’t show in you in a positive light. Choose request over complaint, it shows your maturity, professionalism and team spirit. 4. Become a solution king/queen: Be the member who always comes up with solutions in your organisation. Do the extra thinking to come up with a creative solution for a problem. This effort of yours will make you highlighted as an asset in your team. 5. Manage your own growth: If you have a vision of your growth, make sure you’re working for yourself , your working hard, sincerely, you’re doing all the things correctly in order to go on the path of that road. There are certain employees who keep waiting to be grown and wait for their bosses to work on their growth. Be a go getter and manage your own growth. 6. Become a star team player: At work, we have to work in teams. It’s important to be someone who is great to work with, someone who is supportive, friendly, positive and someone who has great interpersonal skills. When you become a star team player, you become popular among your colleagues, you develop good relationships , you make the work atmosphere positive. 7. Ease your boss’s life: Make the process of working very easy for your boss. When you mean well and give solutions without being told, you are easing your boss’s life. It shows you are loyal to the company.

Account management skills: Creating the conditions for effective presentations

09:13
Communicating your ideas effectively is good for your company, your career and your enjoyment of what you do. Chris Bartley, Managing Director, Havas Life Medicom, offers some tips. Recorded 7 March 2018 at a MedComms Networking event in Oxford. Produced by NetworkPharma.tv = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = ABSTRACT: A simple 'hello' can lead to a million things, as the saying goes. It’s so true of the opportunities that can stem from our interactions with others. The way we come across and how effectively we communicate in person makes a big difference to how we are perceived. Getting our presentations right is about so much more than presentation skills. It’s about priming the audience to listen and to really engage with us. Chris’s talk looks at four simple ways to create the best possible conditions for effective presentations: creating a relaxed and engaging tone; making a relevant introduction (most people don’t!); using the audience’s context to get them on side, and not distracting from the message we’re hoping to deliver. Account management skills: How to succeed in agency

09:01
Chris Bartley, Managing Director, Havas Life Medicom, explains how success in account management critically depends on understanding what clients want - not necessarily what they say they want. Recorded 7 March 2018 at a MedComms Networking event in Oxford. Produced by NetworkPharma.tv = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = ABSTRACT: The foundation for success in any agency is built on two core principles: understanding what clients really want, rather than what they say they want ‒ and delivering it. Although this sounds simple it is far from easy. Chris’s talk looks at the practical ways we can get into the minds of clients and colleagues. How we can stay one step ahead and set the tone on projects rather than having to react. The result should be more opportunities for promotion, fulfilment, and job satisfaction – and who doesn’t want that? Investment Banking Jobs with a Law Degree - From Analyst to Managing Director

04:19
Investment banking careers are explored in this interview from the perspective of leaving law for alternative jobs to do with a law degree. We discuss roles from investment banking analyst to managing director. You'll find the full interview here: http://jdcareersoutthere.com/investment-banking-careers-after-leaving-the-law/. For more alternative careers for lawyers: http://jdcareersoutthere.com/alternative-careers-for-lawyers-jd-refugee. Eric Klar, a Big Law finance attorney who switched careers to investment banking, rose to the level of managing director and recently returned to the practice of law, talks about the paths of investment banking careers. Eric compares and contrasts being a lawyer to investment banking jobs. He tells JD Careers Out There host Marc Luber where young lawyers leaving law firm jobs for alternative law careers can expect to start in investment banking careers. I'm glad he mentioned the important fact that when you're making a career change from law to investment banking, your prior experience is considered added value. Too often, lawyers fear making a career change and transitioning from law to an alternative career because they think they would be throwing away all of their hard work from law school and law practice. More often than not, the prior experience and skills from law school and law practice pay off. That may not be true on day 1 or when it comes to breaking into the new path, but the odds are that it will be an asset over time. In the full interview at JDCOT, Eric tells us how to break in to investment banking and explains a typical day, what skills and personality types best fit the investment banking path, and how to succeed once you've broken in. He shares great advice for anyone wondering what to do with a law degree. Whether you're in law school or considering leaving law practice, you can benefit from Eric's perspective due to his experience working in both career paths. How to interview for a management position without experience

03:23
Interviewing for a management job without the necessary experience can be tricky. But most managers don't know what they are doing anyways, so you have that going for you. The key to interviewing for a management job with experience is that you'll want to show them something that makes you remotely qualified. You need to connect the dots for them and convert your past experiences into showcasing your management skills. Maybe you were a project leader, or maybe you managed small tasks here and there. Maybe you volunteered somewhere and managed something. Even though you did not hold the title of manager does not mean you don't have management experience, you just need to dig for it.
