Which Account Is Best For Investing?

03:20
Do you have moments when you're learning something new, and before you know it your eyes glaze over and you're no longer paying attention? For me, anytime something gets too technical or over-complicated, I immediately begin to check out. The older I get, the more basic I like to keep things. It helps me retain information better and also helps me manage my time wisely, because for me, time is my most valuable commodity. I use this same approach when working with my clients. I explain financial strategies and concepts to them in a way that is easy to understand —not because they're not savvy enough to grasp them, but because we live in an information-overloaded world and the more simple I keep things, the more impact I see in their financial lives. I take great pride in this. And in today's video, I do just that. I explain the differences between a 401k, Traditional IRA and Roth IRA to help you understand which account may be best for investing in your long-term financial goals. What is SEPARATELY MANAGED ACCOUNT? What does SEPARATELY MANAGED ACCOUNT mean?

07:41
What is SEPARATELY MANAGED ACCOUNT? What does SEPARATELY MANAGED ACCOUNT mean? SEPARATELY MANAGED ACCOUNT meaning - SEPARATELY MANAGED ACCOUNT definition - SEPARATELY MANAGED ACCOUNT explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A separately managed account (SMA) is a term within the investment management industry encompassing several different types of investment accounts. For example, an SMA often is used to refer to an individual managed investment account often offered by a brokerage firm through one of their brokers or financial consultants and managed by independent investment management firms (often called money managers for short) and have varying fee structures. These particular types of SMAs may be called "wrap fee" or "dual contract" accounts, depending on their structure. There is no official designation for the SMA, but there are common characteristics that are represented in many types of SMA programs. These characteristics include an open structure or flexible investment security choices; multiple money managers; and a customized investment portfolio formulated for a client's specific investment objectives or desired restrictions. The term "SMA" is used mostly in the U.S. brokerage industry for these types of arrangements whereby an account is managed by portfolio management resources within the firm, or more commonly, by an outside money management (investment advisory) firm along with an administrator. In this context, an SMA can be thought of as an investment vehicle similar to a mutual fund, in which the customer pays a fee to a money manager for its services managing the customer's investment. The important difference is that a mutual fund investor owns shares of a company that in turn owns other investments, whereas an SMA investor owns the invested assets directly in his own name. SMAs must abide by a number of requirements, set forth in Rule 3a-4 under the Investment Company Act of 1940, to ensure they are not deemed to be unregistered investment companies. A similar type of account or arrangement is termed a "separately managed account", "separate account", or "private account" when opened directly with investment management firms, which are not brokerage firms. The term "separate account" in this context should not be confused with separate account of an insurance company. SMAs were developed in the 1970s to accommodate accounts and clients who needed to meet specific objectives that did not fit within the constrictions of a mutual fund investment. It is the freedom of choice of professional managers, portfolio customization, objective investment advice for a set fee, diversification (or concentration should the client choose), tax efficiency and general flexibility that have made SMAs popular among informed investors. Some people question if SMAs actually provide significant advantages in terms of risk/return over more typical portfolios. There is no clear answer, and without comprehensive data, any evidence is largely anecdotal. The ownership structure of an SMA provides an investor some tax advantages over a similarly-invested mutual fund. After purchasing mutual fund shares, an investor will have a tax liability for any net capital gains in the mutual fund portfolio, even if the investments the fund sold for a gain were purchased before the investor owned the shares of the fund. This is known as an "unearned capital gain," and has a negative effect on the investor's return from his mutual fund investment.

M1 Finance Review (how to open account and make 1st investment)

27:36
Today’s video will show you how to open an M1 Finance account and get started with as little as $100 to start building wealth. ▶︎▶︎You can open your free account by using this link (aff): ✅https://jeffrose.com/mm1 One of the most requested videos that you have been want me to do is to review different platforms or investment applications. I am going to review the most requested, M1 Finance for you. Why is this one so highly requested? Well, you can buy stocks and ETFs and there are NO transactions costs. No trading fees, no account fees, and no costs involved when you make your first trade. To have an investment platform like M1 Finance that allows you to buy a stock with zero transaction costs, is huge! That’s why I want to share some of the benefits and the pros and cons. They are still a bit new, they started in 2016, but they already have over $100 Million in assets that they manage and are growing rapidly. What types of accounts can you open? You can open individual, joint, trust, or retirement accounts. You can do after tax with individual and joint accounts or as a retirement with Roth IRA. Other than having zero trading costs/fees, I like that you don’t have to have any money to open an account. You can’t make your first investment until you have at least $100 in that account. For a retirement account they want you to have at least $500 in a traditional or Roth IRA before you make your first investment. Either way, that is not a lot of money to get started. With M1 Finance, the don’t just sit on your cash. You are going to go ahead and make your selections or your trades. Once you have more than $10 sitting in cash they are going to place those trades for you. I set up an account with $1,000, I set up a few stocks and ETFs. When I deposited that $1,000 within two business days they set up those trades for me. I already have ownership in those stocks and ETFs. You’re money is going to work for you not just sit in cash making zero interest. So, what type of investments do they have? Any stock that is traded on the NASDAQ, NYSE or BATS - you will have access to all of those. All the big players. The other thing they offer is investment PIES. They are basically ETF portfolios that they have built for you. You can choose from aggressive to conservative. I think on average you are looking at 7 to 9 ETFs. Most of these are Vanguard ETFs. This really compares to Betterment or Wealthfront where if you are not comfortable picking, you can select one of these PIES. Where it is different - Betterment will ask questions so they can assess what risk level is right for you. With M1 Finance, you will have to select your own risk level. If you know if you are low risk or high risk you can choose the PIE that fits your needs. There are no fees to rebalance or change those PIEs when you want. What they do NOT have is the penny stocks, Mutual Funds or Cryptocurrencies. You are not buying options on this platform. You are not buying annuities. This niche is buying and selling individual stocks and ETFs. This is how they keep from charging you those fees. You can buy fractional shares of stocks through M1 Finance. You can’t do that with a lot of local or online platforms. If you only have $100 to get started, you can buy a fraction of a share of stock, like Amazon at $1,200/share. So how do they make their money? One of the most common ways is by lending securities. It’s very similar to the way banks make money. They also do margin loans. Other investment platforms do the same thing. How safe are they? They do not offer FDIC insurance (you will only get that with a bank). You WILL get SIPC insurance up to $500,000 and $250,000 of that can be cash. The investments you are making inside the platform is not in M1 Finance - you are investing in stocks and will still have access to those investments. ➡️ 14:00] You can watch me open an account in the video so that you will know how each step will look. If you’ve opened an account with M1 Finance, I would love to know what your experience was like. Fund Accounting | Fund Balance | Elements of Governmental Financial Statements | CPA Exam FAR

www.farhatlectures.com Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/accountinglectures Visit the website where you can search using a specific term: http://www.farhatlectures.org/ Connect with Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mansour-farhat-cpa-cia-cfe-macc-2453423a/ Government and not‐for‐profit organizations establish their accounting systems on a fund basis. In governmental and not‐for‐profit accounting, the term fund has a different meaning than it does in business accounting. In business accounting, funds typically refer either to working capital (current assets less current liabilities) or to selected elements of working capital (such as cash and investments), and only a single accounting entity is used to account for all the activities of a business. The crux of nonbusiness accounting is fund accounting, and it forms the basic building block of governmental accounting and financial reporting. It is an accounting device that an entity uses to keep track of specific sources and uses of funds. In governmental and not‐for‐profit accounting, a fund is a fiscal and an accounting entity. Each fund has its own self‐balancing set of accounts from which financial statements can be prepared. Thus governmental and not‐for‐profit entities customarily use several funds—that is, sev- eral fiscal and accounting entities—to account for their resources and activities. A government’s fund structure rarely mirrors its organizational structure. The number and types of funds that a governmental entity uses is not dependent upon its size but rather upon how the government is organized, its sources of revenue, and the services it provides.

What is liquidity - Online Budgeting Software

02:48
Online Budgeting Software http://www.myonlinebudgetingsoftware.org In this video, Corey Vandenberg explains what liquidity is. When creating a budget, whether you use our online budgeting software, or a simple ledger. It is important to know what your income to expense ration is. A general rule of thumb is to stay within an 85% expense to income ratio. Of course the more you save, the better off you will be. Budgeting will help you account for every dollar made and spent. Building a budget is the act of combining your income and expenses so that you can decide how much money you are going to spend on one item, how much on another, and so on-before you actually spend the money. Creating a budget doesn't mean that all of your problems are going to be solved, but it is an important step to determining your financial health and creating financial stability. It won't be too difficult to create a budget, but it will be very difficult to stick with one. Creating and using an Online Budgeting Software is a priceless tool for everyone; it's not just for those who need to closely monitor their cash flows from month to month because "cash is tight". For people who earn enough income to cover their bills and have a regular monthly surplus, a budget can help maximize investment capital by allocating regular portions to investment means such as retirement accounts, college education plans and personal investment accounts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbxpgzFicnA For more budgeting tips, please visit http://www.myonlinebudgetingsoftware.org/
